Anyone with Front License Plate?
I have to mount front license plate (sucks!) due to state law requirement. GM does not sell any type of bracket to mount license plate for Corvette. Anyone have the same problem and how did you mount plate. I saw some universal brackets are auto parts and also thought about just drilling and installing the plastic caps that can be screwed into. I really hate the thought of drilling my bumper in the plate area and almost willing to risk the $75 fine charged here in Hawaii for no front plate.
Thanks!

I live in NJ and I need a front license plate.
I bought the car from Texas where they don't need front plates.
I just pried the plastic insert off the center of the bumper and mounted the plate.
But maybe you are referring to something different.

I thought the holes are there already since you do have to screw the plate on. If you have the front insert, there are two screws at the bottom(you have to look between the crack), remove the two screws and the cover should come off, then you just mount the plate reusing the two screws.

:iagree:
I did the same thing, and had to have the front plate. All I did was go to the store and grab some new bolts for the plate itself. I also got one of those plate covers for the front that matches the lines of the car and it at least made me feel a little better about having the plate up there

No bracket is required. Just remove the cover by taking out the two small screws at the bottom of the cover (you may have to use something to pry the gap open). Use some standard license plate bolts to thread into the 4 molded mounting pads
Carefully wrap up the plate insert piece in plastic and set aside. Never can tell when you may be able to use it or sell it.

Thanks for all the replies. I see what you mean and was hoping there was something that looked better. I do have have clear plastic, shaped to bumper cover. I will just drill and screw I guess. It just does not look right and I think I might just take the risk as I don't think the police will bother Vette owners since they see most with the cover and no plate. I'll have to take notice of all the local Vettes at cruise night and see if they are being ticketed.

Texas requires them and I don't have one.
Just recently got the front cover plate painted to match the car and put it on last weekend. I have already seen (coming at me) four State boys and two locals. I think they either have to be in a really bad mood or I have to be doing something stupid to pull me over.
No tickets. If I get one, I'll pay it and go on (without a plate). Don't like the look.

Re: Anyone with Front License Plate? (BlackRoseC4)
I'm convinced after a mock up and do not like the look, totally ruins the nice, sleek lines of the C4 front. I am going to just take the chance and mount the plate behind the cover so when I get my annual safety check I can just remove the cover. They won't give the safety check without the plate. Besides, I bought this cool ZR-1 cover that will be color matched and will be worth the $75 if I get popped.
Thanks for all the replies and help with the decision and choices. :auto: [IMG][/IMG] [http://www.lt5registry.net/index.cfm?fuseaction=store.licplates]

I visited the islands at Christmas and met a lot of Corvette owners by wearing a different Corvette shirt every day. The folks I met seem to like drag racing a lot there. Have you run yours down the local strip yet? What'''ll she do? I bought my C4 in Houston last March and it had the original front insert so I don't think it ever ran sith a front plate from its delivery new in 1987 until I bought it in 2003!

Re: Anyone with Front License Plate? (corvetteronw)
They require 2 plates in Ohio and I did that for the first year but every where I went all the Corvettes had only the back plate on. Everyone said they drove and didn't get a ticket so now I only have one plate on the back. I am cheating a little because my front plate is on under the solid cover. Give it a try...

I live in Ohio and they require a license plate in the front, here's a picture of how I mounted my from plate. No problem with being pulled over for where my front plate is mounted. Basically just drilled 2 holes in the plate black air deflector and the top rest against the support bar and doesn't hinder air flow either.
