Default What is a fair price for 89 VERT?

I am going to look at an 89 vert today. It is white with red int. It has white soft top and white hard top, 66k miles, new comp T/A's, flow masters, and a chip. Tranny was rebuilt at 40k w/shift kit. Owner says in superb shape.
What do you guys think I should pay? :seeya

with out see'n it would vary widely... i know i i paid 12,500 for mine with 80 k on it back 3 years ago... i paid a little more than it was probally worth but it was what i was looking for .. iwanted a red convertible and most of all i wanted the 6 speed... and black top /interior.. now that i got her repainted and put teh updated bumpers on her...i think it was very well worth it..it all depends on WHAT you think it is worth...does it have everything your looking for? if so and ya can afford it and its in a range of reasonable i say go for it

Why was the tranny rebuilt at 40k.

Maybe they are 'hard' miles.

Maybe the first owner drove it into the ground.

Ask some questions. ;)

In May , 2002 Vette magazine an '89 Vette Convertable in "good" condition was rated at $14k.

If you realy like the car have your mechanic go over it.

BTW, what is he asking for it?

You need not necessarily fret about that A4 rebuild as some shops like to do a rebuild with beefier components when doing a shift kit. Just inquire about when/why the rebuild was done.

I am on my 4th automatic trans. on my auto 89 - I first contacted the dealer at about 7k mi and was advised everything was normal - at about 14k, 3-4 clutch pack went and the trans was replaced.

My automatic 89 has about 48k on it now, I have owned it since new and would not buy another GM sh1tbox automatic in a Corvette

Funny thing was, they tried saying I did not maintain the trans as I hadn't changed the fluid (they said... ) I asked how many miles should I change the fluid??
The GM Zone reps answer was 30k mi.

That trans went at 29k :mad so I didn't make the interval for changing the fluid

so to recap...

First trans "lasted" to 14k mi
next one was at about 18k mi
and the last one was about 47k mi :cuss

My Trans am has seen comparable results from 700r4 automatics and it too, is on #4... Coincidence :nono:

I think 10 would be pretty fair, prices are soft of these cars. BTW my auto lost the 3-4 in 2002 with around 50k miles on it. Not the easiest of miles but the 3-4 pack really sucks.

Its all about condition and how it was driven and cared for.
I spent top dollar for mine a couple of years ago but it is in perfect condition without even a rattle or squeak.
Other than routine maintenance it doesn't cost me anything.
Automatic tranny works great.

:iagree: Spending the extra $$ for top condition is smart.
Repairs and parts are very expensive: Take a simple door panel, for example,- about $300.
