'68 GTX vs. my '90
Curious as to who would win, the GTX has a 440ci motor, pretty sure it's a basically stock motor, no performance mods, he claims it has a posi rear end. Automatic.
Only mods I have are exhaust and removed smog pump.
A kid at my school has one and his friend is positive that it would smoke me but I just don't see that happening.
Who's got who in the 1/4 mile?
Thanks for the info
EDIT: I have 3:33 gears with a 6 speed manual.
Also, his wheels/tires are pretty stock, I'm almost positive they are stock size, so it's not like he has some fattys under there to hook up with. And I am not quite sure on the year but it is definately somewhere around 68 because I looked at a 68 on ebay and it looked exactly like his.

yeah, I'm sure he weighs a lot more and doesn't quite have the technology of the C4. You should tree him good, but after that, I have no idea

Don't be too sure. I used to run against cars like that in my foolish youth. At Minnesota Dragways north of Mineapolis. My bike would do about 13.5 to 14 with some gear changes and bigger jets in the triple carbs. Some of those cars I could stay with, some I couldn't. Depended on the drivers. Oh, and, you just never knew what those guys had under that hood.......

What bike is this? even my Katana600 would do a 12.56? Not to knock if it's a cruiser, since they are made for cruising and a lot more comfortable than my TL-R, by a long shot.

If it is a 440 6Pak..it would be a race. Remember, the GTX wasnt really a muscle car at the time. It had the race engine, and it was in the Plymouth Rapid transit system, but it had all the luxury class of the time. Power Windows, power seats, chrome everywhere, metal trim, A/C...lol...P/S...
My dads first car was a 68 Road Runner, 383 4V, 4 speed, husrt pistol grip shifter. Magnesium wheels, cheater slicks the whole deal. No power anything, anywhere. He said it was no faster than my 85. He admits it bit harder off the line, but it settled down quick.
Id say due to him having a auto tranny kills it, but if he had a stick...he'd beat you like a ugly red headed step child, and then make you his...well you get the idea.
tommy loves mopar muscle, but bleeds corvette bright red!

Re: '68 GTX vs. my '90 (Wheelman)
The 440's got a lot of torque but the GTX isn't exactly a light weight. 1/4 mile times were 14.6 seconds and 96 mph when they were new and stock. If no mods to the GTX the L98 should take it :yesnod:

Re: '68 GTX vs. my '90 (ZF Six)
It would be interesting for sure. There's no way of knowing what may have been tweaked over the years. And although the GTX was an upscale muscle car, they didn't all have A/C, full power, etc. by any means. Stock gearing for the automatic was 3.23 and I never saw one without a posi, Mopar was real good about that. Surprisingly for it's size, I doubt it weighs much more than 3800, not a lightweight but not as heavy as it looks. Now, the HP. 440 Magnum, 4v was the standard engine in the GTX. 375 HP and a torque monster! Watch out for a big end charge! It didn't take much tuning to get these cars solidly into the 13s. Hope you get to race him and we get to hear about it!

Hmm..I dunno..A buddy of mine, with a 68 Coronet R/T with the 440 and auto tranny, on drag radials, basically STOCK, went mid 12's. I dunno, depends on how "stock" he is...

Re: '68 GTX vs. my '90 (Corvette Kid NC)
The 440 Magnums were the engine of choice for a lot of Mopar based highway patrols in the late 60s, early 70s. They could push 4200 - 4400 pound cruisers around at 150+ mph.
Factory rated @ 375hp, the stock exhaust manifolds flowed pretty good. It was pretty easy to get them into the 13s by swapping jets in the carb and throwing a set of 'glass paks' on it.
My guess is that you could take him in a 1/4 mile but he would be coming hard at the end. Don't do him on the street or from a rolling start cause he will eat your lunch. (not to MENTION, it is dangerous)
Take him to the track and spank him. :yesnod:

Take him to the track and spank him :boxing, my slighty modified :D 64 used to smoke the pants off the suckers, don't know how my 87 would hold up, but I'm thinking I'd eat his lunch. By the way-I'll probably get fried for this, but having had both, I think a good auto will take a stick anyday :jester
