How Do You Protect Against Mice?
I suspect I have a mouse sneaking around in my garage trying to stay warm. This year alone I've cleaned a nest out of the air cleaner on my Sierra, and my wife's Avenger (ate a hole in the filter). I DON'T want them in my Vette which is stored in the garage. I've set traps but is that enough?
Wondering what other people do?
Thanks

Put some moth ***** in an old sock and put them under the hood. I have two sets... so far no mice.

Fabric softner dryer sheets work good, also moth *****. The sheets work good in the car, engine compartment, etc.. The moth ***** work around the baseboard of the garage and around the garage door, anywhere they might be trying to get in from.
They also work good for chipmonks. :smash:

My dad's had many problems with mice in the past with his car. Steel wool usually protects the exhaust well but they still would get into the engine. One year they made a real mess out of the interior. It got to a point that he bought a car bag. You just drive the car in and zip it up. No problems since.

I guess having a cat will work too :)

I'm not sure if it works or not but someone here on the forum suggested putting slices of Irish Spring soap in and around your car.

We've had mice in the garage before :mad And I'm not sure if they just have good taste, or if it's the most accessable, but they seem to like the C4 engine bay :mad :mad
So first my dad put a bunch of de-con in the garage. Well, the next day, I go check the garage and ALL the de-con is gone  So I think, yeah, the bugger's dead! :hurray: Until I pop the hood on the Vette  Now I know where the de-con went :banghead: So after a lot of vacuuming, I do things MY WAY :yesnod:
I've dealt with some mice before, and the thing to use is GLUE TRAPS :yesnod: :yesnod: Bait them up with something like a cookie or cracker, and the next morning the little f***ers are stuck :p: The glue traps also attract (and then you dispose of) cockroaches, crickets, etc.

The only thing wrong with glue traps is what to do with the mice when they get stuck. I am no fan of mice, but those glue traps are not very humane. I have used them before and they do work great at catching the mouse, but then it is alive and stuck in that goop. There isn't a way to extracate the mouse, you either dispose of it and let it die a slow death, or you do what I had to do and beat it to death before throwing it in the trash.
Not a pleasant experience, either way.

I knew someone was gonna say that :banghead:
When I first started dealing with mice, at a previous house in Oakland, I thought the same thing about glue traps. I mean, I had plenty of hamsters and gerbils growing up, so I didn't think the cute little mice should suffer like that :yesnod: And the mice were real smart, could get around problems with the normal trap. And if I used poison, then they'd die in the walls or closet or something and it would stink bad! Eventually, they became too abundant and you could hear them running all over at night and they'd get into the food, chew on things, destroy other things, and just become generally annoying. Also, it's not that cool when you got a girl over and you're chilling on the couch, and then zoom, there goes this little brown fur ball! :banghead: :banghead: So, the mice can tick you off enough, that you just don't care after a while that they suffer, because they've caused you to suffer enough too! :smash: :smash:
Then, when I encountered mice in my CORVETTE, you bet I was pissed :mad :mad They had violated MY BABY!!!! You want mice running around in your engine chewing on god knows what wire? :mad :mad :mad
I think the glue traps work just fine :p:
F-ing mice :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:

Re: How Do You Protect Against Mice? (Atok)
I've had good luck with pieces of Irish Spring all over my car in my Grandma's pole-barn. I put some on the inside of the car, on the inside of the wheels and in key spots in the engine compartment. I also do the steel wool in the exhause tips. We put down glue traps last winter, but they just freeze and become worthless with the winter temps. I would hit 100 mice with a shovel if it keeps me from replacing my engine harness.

Glue traps are great under the car. I used to place poison under the car -- but my brother pointed out that the last thing you want is a bunch of critters dying in your vents or under the dash..... However, the new poisons "dehydrate" the mice and they claim, prevent smelling :reddevil
In my last car we found several nest over the gas tank when we convereted over to a sumped system (but thankfully no wire or interior damage) . This will get your attention. Those little monsters can do a lot of damage to fiberglass.

Put down some anti-freeze sweet smelling and it kills them but if you have animals it could do the same be careful. Cover up the pipes and use moth *****, Spring green or fabric sheets.
