First C4 purchase
I've found a nice 1989 Corvette with 78,000 miles on it (unverified) for $5995, and wanted to know if there are any Corvette Forum members that could take a look at it for me to verify the condition. I just blew $450 flying to L.A. to look at a piece of junk which the owner lied to me in every respect.
The owner of this Corvette says he bought it from an auction and that it's very clean and only has a few problems like drivers side power window regulator, and cheap CD player installed and an aftermarket amp missing with wires exposed. Any help will really be appreciated.

Iam a corvette dealer here in So.Cal. You should have plenty enough vettes up in your area. If not. Then wait until you find one you like. Dont rush into buying a corvette. At that price, i think you would be disappointed.

You should ask this question in the regional section.

Why would you go so far to find a car. These cars are everywhere. And keep in mind, yhe cheaper the price, the nastier the car.Theres a guy here in town that has an 84 for sale.Ive seen the car and its clean.Only wants $5000.Its been for sale since last summer so he might take less.Im in Fremont, about 150 miles from you.

Right now I can only afford $6000 so, like you said the cheaper the car the nastier it is and so far I've found that to be true. All the C4's I've found are in need of power window regulators, digital dash repairs, cracked seats, floppy door panels or bad wheel bearing assemblys.
I'm still trying to find a clean C4 with under 100,000 miles preferably a 90-91 since they have the new analog dash layout but, so far it doesn't look to promising for the amount I want to spend.

An '89 with 78k and for $5595?? That indicates trouble - big time! There are some here on this Forum that think thats the right price.....which would only make me wonder what level of standards they have in the first place (read: **** poor lousy). I agree with the others.....wait until some show up closer to you, and SAVE SOME MORE CASH (or be willing to finance the difference)....get yourself into a $9-12K mode and get a nice late L98 or early LT1

Update
Well, I decided to increase the budget and found a really clean "89" C4 from the second owner with only 69,500 miles for $7500. The owner lives close to me and he emailed me a link to 35 pictures showing the overall condition of the vehicle.
From talking to the owner and looking at the pictures, It looks like the car is well maintained and original, he even has the factory window sticker which listed all the options and the dealer price of $34283.00. He told me there is nothing wrong with the car except for a faded rear bumper cover and cracked window sweep, all easy fixes for me since I help out at a friends body shop. I'm going to look at the car tomorrow.
Thanks for all the knowledge and help and I hope this ends my search.
