At 130K, theyre not far from going. U-joints too. So start listening for weird noises from the rear.

My first went at about 131, the pass rear. In a couple of paychecks, provided it doesnt break before then, I'll be doing the drivers' rear and U-joint.

Don't have answer to your question, but I wonder about the life of the lubricant on wheel bearings on cars that are driven only limited miles per year.

Can't remember the last time I heard anyone talking about cleaning & repacking wheel bearings.

Just thinking on my car(96) it is now going on 8years with original lubricant & brakes are in good shape since almost 100% highway. So time not mileage might govern lub life.

How often should we clean & repack front wheel bearings???? Every 5 years or mileage or what???

All 4 hub/bearing assemblies on C4s are sealed units. No maintenance and you have to replace them when they go bad.

I just did my rears at 96K.
Buy them at PepBoys about $150.00, make sure they are made by Chicago Rawhide, that who makes the AC Delco ones

The reason you dont hear it is because we cant do that, ours are a sealed unit. I dont recall ever hearing someone was able to clean and repack a stock corvette C4 bearing.

I replaced the fronts on the 86 this past weekend at 135,000. The rears went first at about 128,000. I know some guys have had to replace them as early as 75 - 80K on their 92s and later.

I have over 158,000 miles and I have not had any bearing problems ( :smash: on wood). U-Joints went out around 90,000 miles.

Yep, I've never heard of anyone repacking wheel bearings on a C4, now I know why!!!!

I did clean & repack non-vette wheel bearings way back as a teenager. oops my age may be showing....

I think many cars these days have sealed wheel bearing assemblies. More expensive, but faster repairs. Time is money, so I suppose it evens out.

I have 320,000+ and have never replaced the wheel bearings. U-joints in the drive shaft and half shafts 3 times, lower ***** joint once, shocks once no other suspension components. Last two sets of tires I got 86,000 on Yokahama A540's and 52,000 on a set of Falken 512 Zeix. Just put on Dunlop 5000's and 4 wheel alignment everything looked good.
