Changing heater core in a 94
Alright, I know I'm fortunate because I have a 90+ vette, and not an earlier C4 with heater cores that are impossible to get to. I've still heard that it is a challenge though. What is the best way to get to the heater core- through the dash or engine compartment. I really don't want to rip up my dash unless that is the only way to get to the core. Thanks guys.

you cant get to it from the engine capartment u have to disconnect the hoses from the outside but that it u have to take ur kick panel out on the pass side then u have kinds of stuff under there that u have to remove. i had to remove the dash pad in my 92 but im not sure if it will help u b/c u got a airbag and im not sure if u can remove it to help u it is as hard as the older models ur not that lucky lol

Oh yeah, Its crazy:crazy: the first time you do it, but now after iv had the pleasure of changing one and knowing the procedure. I could probably do it again in less than a day.
[Edit] I forgot to mention that the heater core is only accessible from the inside of the car, so if you thought you might save some time by going thru the firewall to get to the heater core forget about it.
Once you have everything apart and can see it you will understand why.

Re: Changing heater core in a 94 (IBEAM700)
I'm at the midway point in installing the heater core. :mad
Heres some tips for some people who are considering doing this. First, if you have an airbag, do not try to lift the airbag lid thinking there are screws underneath it. That lid is held in place by two pieces of plastic that are meant to break when the airbag inflates. If you force this lid open, theres no way to close it. I'm still trying to figure out how to shut that airbag cover without having to get it professionally done by a mechanic.
Second, check your replacement heater core to make sure the brass hoses are bent correctly. The hoses on the replacement core I purchased were not.
Third, if the brass hoses are not bent correctly, do not try to bend them in the correct shape yourself. I tried this and quickly broke the solder on the heater core.
Actually, besides opening the airbag lid and having the wrong heater core, the install hasn't been that bad.

I've replaced everything you can replace on a car.
Heator cores I send out to a radiator shop. That job sucks on any car.
Somethings are worth sending out for repair.
I also send out fuel tank changes. Another job that sucks.
Ya has to draw the line somewheres........................
