had to go to bat for the ZR1's honor this afternoon at work. before I describe it, let me say that the co-worker is pro-chevy, and likes Vettes, wants to get a C6, his brother has a '95 w/ Z07 susp which they both went to Bowling Green to watch it get built back then. Anywho, we're discussing the C6 and talking about possibility of a C6 Z06 model coming out the following year and what the hp will be. I mention that 500hp ought to be the marque GM should shoot for with the new Z when they build it, and we start talking about how they wil go about finessing 500 hp out of the LS generation 350. I add that it was too bad they dropped the LT5, because it would be nice to have a current 32v DOHC breathing setup to work on massaging towards 500hp. We discuss the LT5 a bit, and during the conversation he says, "yeah but the ZR1...cool... those are dinosuars today..." I kind of paused, and told him no way. A tuned ZR1 can run with anything out there today, and beat most of it.

Oh well, had to vent. He just didn't know Z's that well, no big deal.

Wish I had one. But I'd prize it so much I'd get a guilt trip over putting miles on it :crazy:

A LOT of people now, think if it doesn't cost more than $40k, that it isn't a fast car...I can take that $40k that someone just dumped on a STOCK Z06, and I can throw $25k into a NICE ZR1, then toss the other $15k into modifications and NO CAR would touch it...tell them to try THAT on for dinosaur...
btw: if they think it's a dynosaur, then they must be referring to it as the "T-Rex of vette's", as in the KING. :yesnod:

sad to think this, but the C5 was originally engineered to use the LT5 - EXCLUSIVELY.

Then the GM engineers showed they could to power with the LS1, and do it cheaper.

The price of admission killed the LT5. It is a highly advanced engine.
Today it would sell, but back then $50,000 + for a Corvette didn't work?
