What's up with the proximity door lock key fob?
It's getting weak and I can't seem to figure out if there's a way to replace the battery. Is the battery replaceable or does the fob itself need to be replaced?

I believe it takes a hearing aid battery ...... I know it comes apart cuz the damn thing was dropped and my wife taped the two pieces together with scotch tape!! I think I remember a small round battery ..

Definitely battery related. I had to be practically touching the car before the fob would work. Believe there's a notch on the top/back where you can pry it open and replace the battery.

Yes, there is a replaceable battery in the fob. Be careful when you pry the little notch on the fob. It is very brittle and mine snapped off when I tried to open it. :mad

Takes a #2450 battery...about the size of a quarter. I found them in the camera department at Wally-World.

Try using Rubber Cement. Coat both halves & secure with a rubber band until it drys. Any excess rubs off easily. If you have to replace the battery the halves pry apart with no breakage. Have had no problems with the FOB coming apart during use.

just a little dab of permatex gasket maker will keep it together nicely and also allows for taking it apart again in the future.

Seems like I'm not the only one to break the tab off. My repair job was to take a small strip on electircal tape and wind around the fob. You can't even tell it's there.

If you go to Radio Shack, they have the battery and will replace it for you.
For those of you who have busted your fob :D , try using a multipurpose tie, they slide thru a little plastic buckle and snap and lock in place, (you cut of the excess strap) and they come in black. More practical and attractive than tape or rubberbands (don't know about you but I don't want to glue it together, would be a problem next time the battery runs down). You can get the ties at Home Depot.
