Snow Tires
OK, this is not necessarily Corvette related, but since it is getting to be that time of year, and when it comes to snow tires I am about as intelligent as a soap dish, I need some help.
For most of my life I lived in the DFW area so snow tires were not something I ever considered, ICE tires maybe. But now that I am in the KC area I was wondering if snow tires really do that much good. Also, can you just mount them and run them till spring?

I'm on the other side of the state and I just replaced my tires with Bf Goodrich KDWS. All the tire stores around here said that for a good all season type performance tire that they would recommend them. Got mine at Sam's club for $141.00 apiece. They handle the wet roads real well, can't say much for the snow yet, hope I don't have to for a while! Just my .02 worth. Zane

Re: Snow Tires (aj1988)
Snow tires make a huge difference in snow. They are designed with a deep, open tread pattern to cut through the snow and get to the road below it and then it should expell the snow easily so it doesn't clog up the tread on the next go around.
Yeah, you just mount them and keep them on till spring, or all year if you wanted, so long as they don't have studs. A lot of people in the snowy parts of the country get a second set of wheels for their winter cars solely for snow tires. Then you can swap the wheels every spring/fall instead of having to pay to get the snow tires removed and remount the old tires. It's usually a good idea to go with narrower tires in the snow as well, so a second set of wheels will allow you to do that easily.

When the car was stock I drove in this mess.
Michelin XGT Z4 Pilots. Only tire I would use in the snow. My wife drove it in the snow in Ohio with no problems. With the mods it now has it gets parked if there's more than water on the ground. :yesnod:

What did you do, import that white stuff? It's been a long time since I have seen that much snow in the DFW area. :-)
Thanks, all, for the input.

BTW, is was actually EASIER to drive the Vette in that mess than my S-10 (to the right). The S-10 had the suspension package with the wide tires, but with no weight in the back it was impossible to handle and the rear was always wanting to step out on it.

Re: Snow Tires (R94 LT 1)
For the 50 years that I lived in the DFW area, snow wasn't the problem. It was the stinking ICE :mad And it really amazed me how many idiots couldn't figure out that there is NO traction on ice. I used to love watching the 4X4 crowd going 70+ on LBJ and then get to a bridge. I bet there are still some folks trying to get the wedgie pulled out of their rumps :D . Being a terminal wuss, I would drive along about 55-60 and when I got close to a bridge, just lift my foot off the gas. I NEVER had a problem, oh well, go figure.

Re: Snow Tires (merplastic91)
Michelin make a Pilot Sport A/S (All Season). I was told it was just introduced this year. It's the only M+S (mud + snow) radial I know of with a Z speed rating.
