Ok, guys wants 1500 for it.
Front Bumper looks like it was hit at a slow speed. Frame is still straight but the sheet metal the bumper attaches to is bent some. Hood latches are gone. and looks like the hinges for the hood are messed up too. Drivers door is bashed pretty good. Door has hit the hood when opening so the hood is slightly buggered up there. Clear top is cracked and glass came apart from the mounting equipment. Interior is in bad shape. Car is apparently from lousiana. Car started right up with no problems. Sounds like a tick from the engine. Didn't increase too much when the engine reved. Steering column is messed up. I think I'm going to pass. What do you guys think?

That's not very pretty. You're looking at around $5k to get the exterior fixed up, another couple for the interior, and some more for the engine/trans. The guy should just take a tax write off.
Stick to your running for now...

Re: Pics of the Beat-Up 87 C4 i was asking about. (UA89Vette)
thats what i was thinking. i'd have to drop quite a bit into it for it to look halfway decent. all those major things would cost quite a bit but I'm sure all the little things that i wont notice till I'm fixing it probably are what would kill me. If the exterior wasn't that bad i'd probably try it.

walk away from the vette!
Looks like it has parts from multiple covettes. Its been bashed up on the front drivers side pretty bad. To do that much damage, you had to hit pretty hard.
The winsheild and top glass will run you a good 1400 to replace both, in my opinion. 700 top, 700 winsheild.
The reason the hood hits the door is because nothing is lining up. That vette has been through the devil, and needs to be put out of its misery.
Your looking at, just for the exterior:
Front nose, and attachment replacement
Hood hinges, mounting harware, realigning
New windsheild, top targa replacement.
NEw drivers side door panels, and trim
Plus alot of bondo, and all new paint.
Id estimate 4K on the exterior, to make it presentable. with a cheap paintjob.
Interior: All new carpet, padding.
New seat covers
New door panels, both sides.
complete dash rebuild, I doubt any of it works right.
All new weather stripping-
Id say around 2K for the interior- give or take!
Engine, comaprtment
It may run, but it needs a rewire, BAD!!!
Ticking is probably the fuel injector pump, normal...
Looks like when it got wrecked, it ripped the hood mounts off.
Engine looks clean, hasnt been run in a while though, id say its probably been sitting for 3-4 years, on and off use. my opinion..
Your obviously a vette connisour, and deserve something better than that. Id look for a 1985-6 with around 85-115K miles. They can be had for under 5K. In near perfect condition.

I guess I'll just keep on waiting...
probably another year or two. i was hoping this would be a cheap way to get in and learn a bunch in the process but i'm not going to drop 7g's into the car just to make it look half-way ok, a good c3 or c4 could be bought for that.

Run away. It will suck you in and take all your $$$$$$$$$$
I bought a 75 (not as bad as this one) thinking I could fix it up $8000 later I sold the car unfinished. You are on the money about the little things Brakes, bushings, shocks, steering wheel, seats, ect.. the list wil go on and on.

What a shame to see one that needs that much work. Maybe the guy should sell/donate it to a school, that teaches Auto Body and let them repair it and auction it off. I have seen many schools do this.

That is tragic.
But, for the $7k you are suggesting? A nice, miled up LT1 would be in reach. Hell, it already is!!! And it will look nice!
For dbl that you can get a CLEAN 94-95!!!!!!!

:banghead: its saying that the site is temp. unavailable. I'd like to see what everyone is talking about cause I still think $1500 is a good deal on a corvette if for no other reason than to part it out.

Could be used as a parts car and probably could make a little off it but I'm in college and am busy so its not worth my time to tear it apart. advertise the parts, then try to ship them out to everyone.

The pics are not available now but I'd say leave it with the guy. Since you obviously love 'vettes, you really don't want to get started with your first being such a PITA. I'm all for getting one that needs some work and putting some sweat equity into it but with your schedule I don't think you would enjoy this much of a project to start with.
Just my 2 cents. :)

Turn around, walk away and don't look back. If you're patient you can get very sweet deals on C4s right now. My coworker just picked up a nice '86 convertible, 98K miles for $6500. Paint is nice, interior has typical wear and it runs strong.
