Tires on your Vette?

You're selection is pretty limited by the 315/35 requirement. When I had to make the choice I went with the Michelin Pilot Sports.
I know a lot of people say good things about them but I find them to be way too slippery for me. You will get more tire noise from the larger tires so it is hard to say how quiet they are.
Based on forum and other feedback I will be trying the new GoodYear F1s next.
I also agree with other posters that the Firestone Firehawks are great tires. If they made those in 315/35/17s I know what I ouwld be getting.

I have Michelin Pilot Sports, great tire, great traction, and they last longer than those crappy Dunlops.

Anyone ever heard of Daytona ZR tires? Parent company is Bridgestone/Firestone. These were on my vette when I bought it. I don't know how they measure up, but I can say they're alot better than the Goodyear GSC's that were on my other vette when I had it. The Dayton ZR's are real quiet, and driving in the rain at highway speeds 80+ mph is a snap (the Badyears used to scare the living h**l out of me). I like the tread design, and of the other design features thats really great IMO is that the outside ridge is raised -aside from looking great, the purpose of this is to significantly reduce the possibility of getting curb rash on the wheel (as is evidenced by the fact that mine are nearly flawless after 13 years and 65k miles) They're about $145 each.

I vote for the F1-GS-D3. I've got them on my ZR-1 and love them great all around traction. Very agressive looking and they protect the rim edges.

Had the originals Goodyears, then put Dunlop SP Sport 8000's on and the ride is smoother and quiet with no more vibration. Price was right. I'm usually a BFGoodrich guy, but these Dunlops are okay.

Consumer Reports just rated Ultra High Performance tires and they came in like this=#1 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 #2 Toyo Proxes T1-s #3 Continental ContisportContact2 #4 Michelin Pilot Sport #5 Dunlop SP Sport 9000 #6 Pirelli PZero Nero #7 Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position #8 Hankook Ventus Sport K104 #9 Yokohama AVS ES100 #10 BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW #11 Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP #12 Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 #13 Sumitomo HTRZ II Tire size tested was P215/45R17. I just bought Firehawks and think they are great, must run them a little to warm them up or when you come down on it when there cold and the back end of the car comes around   :D

Dayton Daytonas.
I've only had one other set (GS-C). Between the two, the Daytonas are better. Better dry traction and handling. No noticable difference in the wet.

I just bought Hankook Ventus Sport K104's from Onlinetires.com for $95 each. I couldn't resist the price. I only have a few miles on them so far, and admittedly I haven't challenged their capabilities yet, but so far I am impressed. They have a tread pattern similar to the Firehawk SZ50s that I had previously (or the Kumhos), and they are quiet at highway speeds (my biggest gripe with the Goodyears that came with the car when I bought it). All in all, I'm impressed.

:hurray: I've also got Sumitomo's, and just put on the 11's so the rears are new. I got a deal at $150 each and they are sticky. Couldn't tell you about rain...car doesn't get wet. I think you'd be happy with them.

Mich Pilot Sport's
Goodyear F1 S/C

Going to take off the Yoko's and put on a fresh set of Goodyear's this week.

I have Firestone Firehawks on mine. I did a lot of research before spending the $. They are quiet, have a smooth ride, and grip the road like there's no tomorrow. If I had to, I would do it all over again.
:steering:
:iagree:
However, the SZ50 EPs don't come in the 315 size needed for his 11" rear rims.

Sumitomos 275 in the front and 315 in the rear. Great tires at a GREAT price, I've had them for a year have had no complaints.

My vette came with those also. Seem to be a good tire. Only complaint is the sidewall raised edge. It makes the side of the tire height look small. I don't hit curbs & it takes away the beefy look of the tire.

Re: Tires on your Vette? (wrlwynd)
Michelin Pilot Sports! No doubt the best overall tire i've had on my vette....and with +222K miles i've run quite a few tires...BUT...they're VERY pricy! 17X285/40s on the front and 17X315/35s on the back will set'cha back ~$1400 by the time they're on the road.
