Default What's the best overall C4 to buy?

I've been reading...and I think it's the '94 (except for the '84 :D ) for these two reasons:

ZR-1 LT5 w/405 HP
Duel airbags
Cheaper/better value w/more HP than the '95 or '96

What do you think? PLEASE STATE WHY IF YOU DON'T AGREE! :D

LT1 w/405 HP
Keep reading. :jester

The LT1 was 300HP. The LT5 was 405 hp. Huge difference between the LT1 and the LT5 in terms of performance and price.

The best overall C4 IMO is the 1995 ZR-1

I want a 95 ZR-1, black with red interior....that's the ultimate C4 for me :D

93-95 ZR-1s had 405 HP and 92-96 LT1s only had 300, you must have misread :yesnod:

Whoops--I stand corrected--the 1994 ZR-1 LT5 is what I meant, not the LT1!

Personally, you got to go topless. If they put the LT5 in a vert, I'd have one, but you can make a LT1 run as fast or faster than a LT5. So with that in mind, I'd go with a 96 LT4 (6spd) convertible and upgrade the horsepower.

There just isn't anything that compares to a nice warm night with the top down cruising along with your Babe.

95 - Larger brakes, better cooling, newer car (less likely to have broken), has taken a large portion of the depreciation hit, LT1 power

Not that I am biased........

Ya know, I asked Gordon Killebrew that same question. Although he said my '85 (I'm sorry, I meant THE '85) was one of the best, the #1 is a '95.
Best bang, most dependable etc. :chevy

Funny how everyone's favorite seems to be their own  Between 93-95 the inside-outside improvements matured the C4 design. So its pretty much which one you like the best. The market right now makes it reasonable to pick any of them up. Probably the culmination of the end of the C4 with the 96 CE and its extra 30 hp is probably one of the finest. IMHO. You get all the final tweaks and the LT4.

In a perfect world I'd sure like to have a choice one from a few select years. Of course beginning with my current one, your first is always special.

Probably the 95 ZR-1 LT5 would be the better choice over a 94 it being the final year it has all the latest improvements.

Something also to consider with the ZR-1, the 93 was held to the 92' price even with the 405.

LT4's have a different exhaust because of the balance tube.

So many choices... :D

With C4's the rule of thumb is to buy the newest one you can afford, unless a particular model tugs at your heart strings (86PC, 95PC, 96CE, 96GS, 88AE, 90CS, 87 Callaway, 84Z51, ZR-1). Lots to choose from in the C4 line. Much more so then its younger brother, the C5.

I would say the Lt4 1996 would be the best. Reason, GM took 12 years to perfect it. Each year from '84 through '96 they improved the car. So the '96 is the collection of 12 years worth of improvements. If I can't get a C5 someday, I'll trade my '87 and move to an Lt4.

"personally you want to go topless'

you can in the ZR-1 and coupes, take off the targa top. Every model has one.

I, a 93 vert owner, am getting annoyed with track rules, rollbars, etc. am wishing i got a coupe.

Although, other than C5 verts, the C4 vert is the nicest, quietest, smoothest convertible ive ridden in (in comparison to Jeep wranglers, mustangs, etc.).

Doesn't really matter what we all here think, we aren't going to be the owners. Buy what you like and like what you have once you get it.

:yesnod: thats an easy one. 96 LT-4 Vert. I would take it over a ZR-1 any day of the week. In fact no offense but i would'nt trade my 91 for a ZR1 other than to make a buck. You have to have a vert and the LT-4 is plenty of performance for most any application and if you need more you can always drop some cash and modify it. I had a C4 coupe and the targa top is better than nothing but to me it was more of a PITA than anything else. True top down crusining is what a corvette is all about to me. I wish i plopped down the few extra bucks for an LT-4 when i bought but i wouldn't trade mine for a C4 coupe / ZR-1 of any year other than financial reasons. Maybe thats just me but nothing beats a warm night, top down, fast cruise preferably with an attractive member of the opposite sex. top off does not equal top down.
