high third brake light on a late model ala ZR1
hey guys what would you think about me putting a high third brake light on my 96 coupe? i really really like the way the ZR1s look with the late model body style and the high third brake light. although i guess if i did it on mine it would be a high fourth brake light. can i get one of those conversions for the 84-85s? will that work on mine? just tie it into the brake light wires? i suppose maybe this belongs in tech but i was first just gonna see what you guys though tabout it before i attempted it

Stylistically, I'd say no. Either have a high-mounted light or a low-mounted light, but not both.
Of course that's only my opinion, which is less than worthless.

Talk about a light show though when you hit the brakes.

Esthetics aside, you might have some practical difficulties. To make it look "right" you would need to find the roof/hinge piece with the light built in. Or look for a ZR1 rear glass with the piece installed. Then get it painted correctly to match. Now you'll need to swap the rear glass from the old to the new. I'm sure that the electrical hook up could be made by running a new circuit to the existing brake light circuit through the halo trim. Seems to be a lot of work, IMHO, for the return. Of course, you are talking to people who will spend $xxx.xx per HP to go fast! As stated above, it would make for an interesting light show.

I don't know what the brake light switch looks like or or how it operates on early C-4s or on later C-4s with the Center Hi Brake Light, but I do know the Center hi brake lights on a ZR-1 is seperate wiring from the brake lights in the lower area by the back tail lights. The brake light switch located above the brake pedal is a 2 part unit with wires going to each set (high and lower) of brake lights. It's not uncommon for the CHBL to not work and the lower ones still work on the ZR-1. I found it was not the bulbs by switching the wires on the switch and then I had no lower brake lights but did have working CHBL. A new switch at a local auto parts store solved the problem.
It' s b**ch of a job to get to the switch over the brake pedal! Schedule an appointment with a massage therapist for when you finish...you'll need it. Bill

Do you wanna meet up sometime and swap hatches? I have an '89 with that third brake light like the ZR1 and I like the look without it.
