Default Click, Click, Click

That was the sound this morning when I turned the key to start the car. I'll turn it and "click" I tried it at least 10 times, then it started. I went for lunch and the car started no problem... What the heck was that?? I just replaced my Optispark, water pump & ignition coil 2 weeks ago. Anyone know what this is?? I'm getting worried a problem is coming... :(

I dont' know on a vette but on my truck that is normally a sign that the starter is going bad. The Arm inside the solenoid may have been stuck against thw wall because of a failure in the magnet. A few good whacks with a broom handle is fine for my truck but the hell if I would go routing around in the vette with it to smack the starter. YOu might want to try replacing the solenoid.. normally they run about $15-30 depending on where you get it. Or you can replace the whole starter.

That's my .02

It could be as simple as a bad connection at your battery. If the cable connection is dirty or loose, it'll do that till it fries thru the crud. I've had it happen. And yes, it could be the starter/solenoid. :chevy

Start with the easy stuff first and check your wires and connections...After that, test your starter by either taking it off and taking it to a parts store that can test them or run a hot wire directly to the solenoid with the key in the run position and see if it starts up that way.....After that, go to your ignition switch or lock cylinder...many times after turning over all that time, something inside the mechanism will get loose or have a bad connection causing it to make the contact sometimes and not others.

That is a symptom of poor cable connections to your battery. Remove the battery cables (neg first) and clean the cable lugs and battery posts and replace the cables (neg last).

Exactly the same thing that happened when my starter went out. But like a few other people said, start with the simple stuff first (connections).

:iagree: Same exact thing happened to me. The starting problem was occasional and it was almost always in the morning. As it got worse and worse and I could seem to find what the problem was, I decided to head to the autoparts store and order myself a starter. I think it was $120. Since I replaced it, no problems starting.

Okay I still haven't changed anything. This morning it did the same thing, but when it started it kept turning the starter (I could hear it) while the car was running. I had to turn off the car and then turn it on again, then it wouldn't do it anymore. Is that a symptom when the starter is going out, or is that the solenoid. Also two more questions since I'm not too familiar with this car,

1. Is the solenoid in the starter or is it next to it?
2. Where is the starter?

Thanks.

Could be a sign of early battery problems. Just had enough juice to start.
Just my 2 cents.
Good Luck
