I did one winter and believe me it sucks ! Try getting out of a situation where you are stuck and the car wont go anywhere eventhough the rear tires spin. I got stuck so many times I parked the car one night and came out in the morning and saw a flat on my rear passenger tire. I then got a 97 Blazer 4*4 qhich helps a ton ! :yesnod: It ain't worth driving the Vette in the winer. Too many headaches. One winter was enough for me !

Took it for a quick spin in one little snow storm. Thing made it out of my driveway, but didn't make it back in.

My suggestion; get a winter beater, you won't regret it at all. Driving your vette during the winter can lead to regret.

There's 2 things a vette doesn't like to do in the snow, and that is turning and stopping.

Here in KY we rarely get much snow so I drive it all winter.

This last winter we did get a lot of snow for the area (snow here is measured in inches, not feet) I actually had fun driving the vette. The hardest thing is actually getting moving in the first place. With the limited slip you can bet that the rear end will go somewhere, usually sideways.

Forget about traction control. In order to move you've actually got to let the wheels spin.

i've survived two michigan winters daily driving, and two wisconsin winters in a Camaro. it was not bad as long as there was no snow on the ground. i've driven in as much as two inches of snow, and although driveable, it sometimes is not fun. i just needed to remember that there are other throttle settings than 0 and 100%, and to be very conservative in braking since you can't always see ice on the road, especially at night. (don't ask how i know.) i actually thought the Corvette is much better than the Camaro in winter - better balanced vehicle.

in really bad snow (4"+) i'm fortunate that i have a Trailblazer to rely on. if you don't have a second car seriously consider bumming a ride off of someone for that day.

i suspect the snow performance has a lot to do with the fact i drove on original GSC's, so this year i'm going to pony up the cash for probably the BFG KDWS's. i suspect those people who have had bad experiences in the winter with their Corvette were driving on summer tires which are bad in the cold and even worse on snow.

also, i've been diligent trying to knock salt off the vehicle every now and then by going to a neighborhood self-wash with the pressure washers. so far no worse for wear in the corrosion department.

as far as accidents, well, you can only do so much to avoid accidents caused by others - picking good routes with less traffic, and constantly monitoring your mirrors for danger signs like the idiot following too close.

my opinion is that if you want to keep your car in pristine shape, get a beater. if you bought your Corvette to drive it every chance you get, let no one discourage you from taking it out even in the winter.

if you do drive this winter, take it easy and you will enjoy the benefits of Corvette ownership year round.

I use mine as a daily driver, so driving in the winter is not an option. I put BFG KDWS tires on so that I could maximize performance in all conditions. However, it does not snow very much where I live, so I am not too worried.

Drove mine all last winter here in Missouri. I have the Goodyear GSC runflats on the car and I had no trouble getting around. And we had one of the snowiest winters in quite a while here last year. I will be replacing the GSC's with BFG KDWS's for this winter. The runflats just ride to harsh for my liking.

Just respect the thottle and watch out for the other guy and you'll do just fine!

I drove right thru winter last year. It snowed oly a couple of times and on those days i didn't drive her. I did drive it to the coast at christmas and i can tell you it wasn't the smartest thing iv'e done. Clear on the way down and winter wonderland on the way back. My tires are the all seasonn KDWS wich means squat when your diving a car with power and a posi rear end. I had to baby the gas pedal to avoid power slides. Keep her out of the snow !! :smash:

agent,

I'm glad I'm not the only one who took pictures of the snow covered landscape while driving. I'm sure it's not the smartest thing to do but it makes for some cool pics. Of course on closer evaluation it looks like yours were taken by a passenger, much much wiser.

Living in Sunny San Diego, of course I drive it in the winter. Although it can get downright chilly at 40 somethin' degrees...... :D

Here in Vancouver Canada I drive the Vette all year round. Winters do not get very cold and not much snow.

But when the snow does fall the Vette stays home. Too many crazy drivers and the Vette just has too much torque!!!

A Vette is the snow is like a sled on wheels!!!
