I took delivery of my '88 3yrs ago in Mesa, AZ and drove there through July; I just kept the targa off during the days as it was cooler even on those many 115deg F days.

Now I have those aluminized dash inserts but don't even use them on hot days; just remove the top and off we go.

Of course I have white seats and steering wheel, tinted glass and a fuzzy dash cover so it realy doesn't get uncomfortable driving in the sun even during our recent heat wave of 98+deg.

Solutions:
1. Buy a fiberglass top. (Down here in S. FL. I keep the glass top off and the fiberglass top on during the summers. Helps a good deal. You can pick one up off of e-bay pretty cheap. I went the other way and bought the glass top for the winters here in FL. I wanted a somewhat open feeling.)
2. Buy the Tonuea (sp?) cover offered by MAD and Ecker's. It covers only the glass and drops the interior temps dramatically!! It is the best $150 I have paid for an accessory for my Vette. I have all sorts of people asking me where I got it, because they want one for their ricers. So sorry...Vettes only. :D

Hell yes it gets hot, especially with the lack of GM heat-resistant padding in the interior. Plus youre right there at the engine and transmission.
I know there are sound and heat resistant pads you can put under the carpeting to help. I noticed though, that after i did the 160 and fan reprogram, that the interior is not quite as unbearable.

I cant even stand to drive with the top on during summer, you have to take it off and get a hatch vent just to make the car bearable. My AC doesnt even work right now anyway. I put on a steering wheel cover, so i can just spin that around so i can touch the wheel. Doesnt help my back from sticking to the leather seats though.

I dread moving down to LA and having to drive in that insane heat & humidity, SC is bad enough.

I parked my Vette in Pomona, Ca since last week and start driving my wife SC400 to Las Vegas. My 88 Vette has glass top and it's too hot to drive here in Vegas. the oil and coolant temp. average around 225 and 210 driving around Vegas where as while driving in Ca the temp. drop to 200 and 195 :rolleyes:.

I been thinking about tinting the rear glass to reduce the heat but what about the glass top?

Your not kidding....it does get HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know I purchased the insert from Mid America......after installing...like it has a backing....not one of those cheapo's.....
But damn if it doesn't hang down around my ears......like some mid '70's bad interior....
But it keeps the sun/heat out....
I really should complain to MAD about it.......$69.00 lots of bucks.....

I bought the solid (not dots) static cling panel from Ecklers last year and it works great. When I'm using the car and park it somewhere I use folding shields made for the Vette windshied and rear hatch glass. These really help keep the heat buildup from getting too excessive. It still gets warm when parked but not nearly as bad as before.

Man, the galss tops turn our cars to hot houses! Soon as the temp are consisitently in the mid 90's I change the clear top for my regular top. Vast improvement! Only way to beat the heat in Dallas.

Pardon me, but I like a little cheese with my whine! :yesnod: I drive my '89 all the time in Oklahoma and have to leave it outside at work. No cover, no film, no window this or that. I just start my car about 5 or 10 minutes before I leave work and all is good. Maybe some of you should have your A/C unit repaired. It doesn't sound like some of your cars A/C is up to snuff.

I got a solid top and tinted the windows, so its not to bad now, but when I had just the glass Oh yeah you bet it got hoy in there

This should help: http://www.madvet.com/shop?store=1&frame=709, my dad bought it for me. Just don't speed with it on. It "Holds securely at legal highway speeds." Also solves the problem with the annoying targa top removal/replacement. Too bad I still haven't put it on the car yet.

My car is black/medium gray (grey?) and sitting in the driveway working on the speakers sucks.

You can, just take it off before you do. The woman who cuts my father's hair at the Lemon Tree has an 84 (I think she owns the LT), and she had a porsche turbo before the vette. I think she said she likes the vette better. She lost the "convertible" top while under the limit, and they replaced it for free.
