They are wonderful people. A deep trip would be great fun. I would think you could contact Chevrolet for a list of dealerships on your route.

You sound pompous and egotistical to me with your put-downs. Maybe you're not, but you sound like you are.
Welcome to the forum
Looks like you're off to a great start. :nonod:

Have only two, three people noticed that I still do not have the information I need to make an informed decision? Instead, I'm castigated for my attitude, or besieged with irrelevant comments saying, "Don't do it."
I have no idea how to say "ugly American" in Spanish, I coud say Americano feo, but that would simply describe a physical attribute. I'm hardly Burdick's
"Ugly American" as I was in international journalism and public affairs on three continents for more than 30 years.
I ask again, anyone know if parts and service are available for Corvettes at Chevy dealerships in Mexico?

If you're going to Mexico stay away from Mexico City.
Its very dangerous. Crime is a way of life there. The rich folks (La gente rico) drive in carvans with armed body guards.
Jalisco is probably safe. Its a desert so take plenty of water.
Mexico is beautiful country with some of the nicest people in the world.
I know of Mexican Nationals who were robbed at gun point in Mexico City.
You're right about border towns, they don't reflect the true nature of Mexico.
The Pacific side of Mexico is a lot safer than the Gulf side, mucho gente de Estados Unidos.
Bueno suerte Amigo.

Used to haul cattle down to Monterey Mexico, and it wasn't bad, but I was in an eighteen wheeler. Lots of truck parts available down there...probably hot parts
As far as attitudes go on this thread, it would appear to me that the only attitude is coming from the original poster. If you're such an expert at driving in foriegn countries, then why are you asking questions on the forum? Why don't you take the time to do the research yourself instead of depending on forum members for the answers? If I was going to be doing such an outrageously foolish thing like taking a Corvette to Mexico, I think I would be getting the correct info from the horses mouth...ie: General Motors Corp.

Believe it or not, there are Chevy dealerships in the U.S. that won't work on Corvettes. I was stuck in Clarendon, TX with an optispark problem in my '92. Called the service manager at the local Chevy dealer, he told me they had never worked on a Corvette! Not once, and he didn't want to try. And this was not a small dealership either. His advice was to flatbed the car to Amarillo (about 60 miles). Fortunately, the car ran fine and got me all the way home the next day.
The point is, GM might tell you that you can take the car to any dealer, but the availability of parts and qualified techs may be hit or miss. If you're willing to wait for parts should the need arise, I'd say it shouldn't be that big a concern.
To end my post, I'll withhold my opinion about taking a Corvette into Mexico (yes, been there several times) and just wish you a safe trip and good luck!

No, but I know a gal from Mexico, who shall remain nameless, (Salma) who I'd like to drive deep into! :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:
