Re: GOOD REASON NOT TO BUY A C-5 (RedHot)
and before you know it they'll be linking these black boxes with the posted speed limit through GPS and sending you tickets in the mail for speeding! i don't care if they are "monitoring" the car, but there has to be a limit, the government is always looking for that extra inch. heck, i'll probably get put on the fbi's list for posting this. :D

Every time a Corvette is involved in an accident, everyone assumes the Corvette driver was at fault. With this thing you can prove that you weren't speeding. And if you were, you can flash the memory yourself. Problem solved.
As for the one complaint about people suing car manufacturers... The Tort laws in this country are F$#@&ed UP because the trial lawyers association of america makes a lot of campaign contributions.

Tell me about it. The Navigator and the Harley F150 have them as well. I read about it some time ago and it gave me goosebumps! :nonod:

I had heard of a setup like this but from what I remember it was something you would ADD to your car so you could see how fast your kid or other family members were driving. Once a 100+ MPH was recorded someone was definately in trouble! :D I did not realize that some of these cars have this function from the factory.

Re: GOOD REASON NOT TO BUY A C-5 (bogus)
the manufacturers put the data capture into the car for a couple of reasons... they can compare data and analyze accident data within know parameters of damage.
The only way the cops can get it is though court order. It is NOT public data. Just because it is there, does not mean it is available.... It is owned by the cars owner, the maker cannot release it!!!!
GM can d/l it... somewhere deep in your buyers contract, it allows GM the rights to the data for update and retrieval. But that means they can only use it for their purposes.

They are equipped with a black box that if you have an accident the police can download the info and it will show your speed what percent of throttle and if you where braking or not all this data will be used against you.

It's good to see some on this Forum who still value freedom but too many today would rather be protected from themselves.
We didn't object to seat belt laws, air bags and the like so of course more survelance will come upon us.
So much for Patric Henry, guess he wasn't a patriot after all. I mean, common does anyone still believe "those who would give up freedom for safety deserve neither"...how "politically incorrect" can you be.

I would disconnect that "black box" if I owned a car with one in it.
Here's a question for ya..If that black box is so indestructable..why don't they build the whole damn car out of the same stuff?

All new and some upgraded railroad crossings are utilizing similiar systems that log many different parameters, time, train speed, condition and position of signals and gates etc., just in case of litigation for accidents at these sites.
