Default Question on jacking up the C4 from the back...

usually when jacking up a car I put the floor jack under the rear axle center, lift it then put ramps or jack stands under it. Of course, on the Vette this area is all exhaust system. Looks kind of tight to maneuver under the frame rails, and don't really like the idea of cranking up a side at a time (its a convert). Whats the best procedure to safely get the whole car up on 4 stands or ramps? Thanks

Get a "Jack-a-vette" It fit's between the exhaust pipes and lifts it from the differntial.

Or do what I did before I got the jack-a-vette, place a 4 x 4 on your floor jack and jack up with the spare tire.

What I do (on a coupe) is jack up the rear from the side where the little arrows are, making sure to clear the stuff I don't want to damage, just high enough to place one of my small 2k lb floor stands in the pocket just under the leading control arms. Then do the same thing on the other side. Then I place the center of the cup on the jack under the camber bar at the knuckle joint, it's almost inside the wheel. That's where I lift from (one at a time) to get the car up on 4 floor stands. It's about the best way I've been able to figure out. It's like putting the car up in stages, it depends on how high I need to go. The front is alot easier.

This is the method I use and it works great. Place the 4x4 on the jack bucket and position it right between the hinges on the spare tire carrier..

This apparently doesn't damage the spare tire carrier??!!

Thanks for the tip!

I tried this but as I jacked, the tire cover just kept bending and I was afraid I would break something. Is this normal and the tire cover will eventually stop giving, and the rear will lift?

Do you have a spare tire in it? If it's empty I wouldn't recommend it.

I have fabricated a 3/8' aluminum plate to fit in the area of the spring shackles behind differential and modifyied jack with a 1 1/4" by 5" extension that interlocks to a hole in this plate. Have not tried this out yet but looks like it should work. My only concern, is this a strong enough area to use as lift point. I will try and post some pics of this if anyone interested after trying out.

I have been jacking mine this way for a while (except I use wood instead of aluminum) have not had any problems.

Yep, under the spare. Didn't believe it when I first heard it a while back. So I took everything down to look-see( did some cleaning too, made sure there was a jack there). The spare seems to rest on a rear crossmember and the carrier cover rests directly on the spare.
So as long as you have a spare in there you should be fine.
