Default auto down window switch

What was the first C4 to offer the auto down window switch? I'd like to have this feature in my 85. Has anyone done this or heard of it being done? Lastly will the relay work with my window motor?

I am not completely sure about your 85, but I bought the little kit from MAD for this function for the driver's side for my 90. Take my advice and solder the connections - do not depend on any crimp connections. It works like a champ!

They don't seem to have it on their web site but I did get it some years ago from their catalog.

I wish I could put it on my pass side! I suppose it could be, just need to figure out how to connect it I suppose.

My '93 doesn't have it.

Jerry Watts from the NCM had a tech tip on this. I don't know if it's available from the NCM website, but a phone call may put you in touch with him 1-800-53-vette.

That's for an F-body but our cars should be similar. I wouldn't be surprised if they use the same module, in fact.

Thanks for the replies. With the information from the link and a '94 module I'm gonna see if I can make this work. It will be really neat if this can work for the passenger side to.

Just ordered mine for the pass side - already used the MAD one on the drivers. Hope it works :lolg:

Well, I already ordered this module and just looked at the schmatics. The systems are very different between the early C-4 and the schematics for the Camaro.

In the early C-4's the switches really toggle the motor's ground:

But in the late camaro, it works off a different circuitry:

Anyone think they can figure out how to adapt this module to the early c-4?

Thanks in advance.

WARNING WARNING WARNING

This will not work for Early C4's!!!! :cry

I got the part listed in this camero site and it will NOT work on early C4. Wiring is different!!!!

I got the part and rigged up a test. Works fine per the wiring diagram for a late model camero - will not work for early C4.

I called MAD and asked them if they had any of their modules (which would work) and they have been discontinued. :cry :cry :cry

Do not waste your money on trying to apply this to an early C4's

As long as you're stuck with a part you can't use, would you be willing to open it up and see what makes it tick? If I can see how they controlled it, I can probably build a similar control for the early C4-style wiring.

It's solid state, so I doubt you'll see much :) I do know most GM modules use current-spike detection to know when the window reaches the end of it's travel. Seems crude but what can you do.

I didn't realize the Camaro and early C4 were different. You can always sell the part to a willing Camaro owner. Now I'm curious whether the late C4 is more similar to the early C4 or the late Camaro.

Well, it usually pays to do research before you order

Here is a uniersal unit that does auto UP & DOWN :hurray:

http://www.autoloc.com/detail.lasso?itemid=WC1000

I'll let you know how this works. Sounds cool. It even hooks up to an after market alarm so you can hit a button and lower the windows.

I did take apart that GM unit. It was a bunch of relays, ICs and resistors. Beyond my abilities to modify.

Hopefully this new one will work out better. It better - I ordered two. After all, I could not have my driver's winodw not have auto up while my passager's one does

One dumb question...
Why not to use a relay?

I think there is more to it than just a timed relay could perform. It needs to have the ability to reverse if you toggle the switch up while it is going down (or vise versa). And for the auto up mode, it is an important safety feature to sense that the motor is drawing more power - and stop it - like if your kid's head get's stuck in it while it is going up. If it didn't you would have a very bad day
