Took my (1996 LT4) car to the strip for the first time.....
Took my car to the 1/8th mile strip for the first time since I got it last December. With the exception of muffler elims and a KN filter (no cut lid) it's stock. No air foil, no TBB etc etc. I was in a hurry to get home and take the wife out to dinner (gotta keep Momma happy) so I didnt have time to let it cool off and every run it was at 200-215 degrees. I was hot-lapping it. I got in 5 runs and the track has had some new pavement put down and it is green. I either went up in smoke off the line or did farly well. There was no in between. I'm a little disappointed with the way the car performed. Part of it was my fault. My best run was a 2.13 60 foot time 8.88 at 73.xmph. Let me expalin that low trap speed. I missed my 3rd gear shift and actually went to 1st gear instead  for a fraction of a second. No damage though. I wonder what it could have been. My next best run was a 2.07 60 foot time with an 8.99 at 81.7 mph. I went across the traps in 2nd gear on the rev limiter. I had to let off on the 1-2 shift as the car got very, very loose and I finished in 2nd. All 3 other runs were 2.35 60 foot times or worse and all around the 9.0 mark at about 81mph or so. I was hoping for at least more mph. To put this in perspective. My 1990 L98 put down 250 rwhp but trapped nearly the same mph, usually 80mph with an occasional 81 or 82mph. It ran consistent 8.8s and 8.7s with 2.05 - 2.10 60 foot times. My LT4 made 293 rwhp. 40 rwhp more and the same mph. BTW, I was shifting the 96 at 6200rpms. Sorry to be so long. I just need some more seat time in this car to extract it's potential.

I'm willing to bet your 90 was an automatic. Also, the L98 cars are hell off the line. Lots of low end torque. :yesnod:

Re: Took my (silver & red CE)
what you need more than anything else is some ET Streets... probably make the biggest difference for the $$$
can get a couple of tenths in your 60ft at least, and that should translate into a big drop in the ET

Take a look at my 1/8th mile times(link in my sig)
I think the track and your weather conditions made a big difference.

Re: Took my (96LT4)
The 90 car was a six speed and it was a beast off the line. Heres a comparison of the 2 cars dyno sheets on top of one another based on mph.
This graph more than anything shows why.

Russ,
sounds like you had a good recon mission on the Vette. Now you have a direction of what to fix and improve on to get better times.

Re: Took my (Strick)
I had my LT4 to the track once and my times were very similar to yours. My 60' was 2.189 1/8 mile ET was 9.076 at 81.95 MPH. I had the same problem you did though. My 6 speed drag racing technique is not very desireable. I couldn't launch good and my shifting isn't the fastest.
You'll improve with practice.

Bone stock.... a well prepped track, the evening was cooling compared to the hot day. And, my best 60ft times ever.
Good luck!

Patrick, I kinda got lost in the C5 section not long after you got the Grand Sport. Were you ever able to duplicate those times with your GS?

MVR155 ran his GS bone stock to a 12.9x.
I'll be running the car on April 19th, so I'll post the scoop here!

Re: Took my (Patrick96LT4)
I may head out tommorrow and try again if the weather holds out. I did manage to pull a 2.07 60 foot time so there is hope for a better run but my mph seemed low at 81.x

It might be a different story if you were to run a 1/4 mile.My 1/8 mile mph are not so good,84-85,but it pulls the last 1/8 great. The lt4 is a top-end performer,so I would think it would run good 1/4 mile mph.

I had same problems with my ZR-1 the first time out. I was use to running an automatic. I am having trouble launching with the 6-speed as you can see from my times below. This was also an 1/8 mile track.
R/T 0.941
60' 2.128
330 5.75
MPH 63.78
1/8 8.85
MPH 82.94
I think I need to get some drag radials.
