Default opinions on side mirror wind deflectors

I'm referring to the thingies that go between the mirror housings and the door glass. I'm pretty sure that they were standard on vert's - why didn't chevy put them on coupes. Looking for opinions from people that have installed them on coupes.

TIA

Steve

Go for it. They're real easy to install and helps with the interior wind turbulance with the windows down.

I don't care for them.... I believe you have to drill and/or rivit them to the mirrors.

I don't think they came from the factory on any corvettes, coupes and verts!

But that is just me!

My cpe has them on it, I am not sure if it was an orginal part or not, but I think they look cool, and they do seem to quite down the wind noise a bit.

Rivet install is the surest way to install them. You can use just double sided tape, but my guess is they will eventually fly off. I used some thin double sided tape to hold the deflectors in place, then drilled out the rivet holes. This way the deflectors didnt shift while I was drilling and look all goofy when the holes didnt match up. Took me about 30 minutes to do both sides. Trust me, for $30 (factory GM deflectors) it is well worth it. I left mine black, but that's cause I have this yellow/black theme working.

BTW, they did come factory on some early verts.

So what about those rivets?

Can a "tool novice" do the job?

When ordering the kits in most of the catalogs you receive rivets too. Will a "Rivet Tool" come with that kit or is it a given that if you do not have a "Rivet Tool" you should either buy one or not "Do it yourself"?

In other words should having a "Rivet Tool" be as common as having a screwdriver?

I have alot of tools ... but I have NEVER installed rivets befrore.

THANKS! :seeya

I have a pop rivet gun .. altough I don't use it much it's nice to have and they are not expensive. Buy one, get a scrap piece of material (metal, plastic, etc) and practice a bit .. it's easy to use

The tape does work loose eventually. I'll be riveting mine in place this spring. You should use the tape to hold them in place while mounting with the rivets.

And they work great!!

I installed them on my '85 and painted them black. They're small and easy to paint. I used double sided tape that came in the kit to install. They stayed on with no problems.

They came from the factory on my '94.

Greg

Yep, they were factory on verts. I know mine came with them I like them a lot.

Do you think they did that for looks on the verts rather than anything else? I don't think it would look as good on a coupe.

Thanks for your opinions. I think I'll install them intially with tape, and if I like the way they look  and what they do, I'll rivet them on.

They suck.

I bought a set from Eckler's, and they fit poorly. There's also a ~3/8" gap between them and the A-pillar. All that for $25. I haven't gotten around to returning them yet. The Ecklers one is just a thin piece of molded abs plastic with rough edges. It kinda overlaps the mirror housing a bit, I thought it looked ghetto-fabulous.:U

You might be okay with the factory ones.. they look like a better fit from these pics.

All verts came with them from the factory as well as some '87 coupes. Make sure to get GM ones because the repro's don't fit well. Come to think of it, the GM one's don't fit that well, but they are much better than repro's. I have GM one's and there is a gap that might be closed by tightening the mirror bases. The rivet look is rather cheesy, so find some black 3/16" x 1/2" rivets rather than bare aluminum. I prefer the nice contrast of the black as opposed to painting them. They compliment the black windsheild frame nicely. I like the way they visually connect the mirrors to the car. Overall. I like them.
