'85 for 2000$ more than an '84?
Hey,
So i'm looking to buy an either '84 or '85 for my first car, and i have a deal that's offering an '84 for 2000$ less than an '85, would it really be worth to get the '85 for 2000$ more? Both the cars are in great shape, the most I would have to do on either is change the tires or change the oil. This'll be my daily driver for a couple years at least, and I live in the PNW.

How much do you know about the differences between 84-85? There are significant engine differences.
Are they both autos/standards/different?
what are the specific feature differences? Leather, cloth, etc?
Does everything work on both?
Mileage differences?
Lots of lacking information to give good advice.
My personal choice, all else being equal would be the 84 because I am a Crossfire fan plus the Crossfire only ran in two Corvette models (82/84). However, I really like the Tuned Port, so I wouldn’t hesitate on the 85 if the overall car was in better condition than the 84.

What are the roads like in your area and what factory suspension options are on each car? 1984 suspensions are known for being very stiff and Chevrolet immediately began softening up the rates in '85. Are they both automatics or manuals? Manuals came with Dana 44s for '85-up and Dana 36's for automatics. All '84's, regardless of transmission were Dana 36's.

84s have the old crossfire and are 205 hp L83 engine. 85 was the first year of the 230 hp TPI or L98 engine. 85 had a flat tappet cam and cast iron heads. 1/2 way through 86 the Corvette got Aluminum heads and a roller cam. I personally would look for a late 86 to newer for a DD. A plus for the 85 is they didn't have ABS or the vats system which can cause problems. The VATs is a theft deterrent system.
