Engine Oil Cooler-Z51 Package
Asking this question for a friend who is not on this Forum.
He wants to know if the Engine Oil Cooler was part of the Z51 package in the 1984 Corvette.
He has received information that it was and other information that it was not.
He has a 1986 and the Engine Oil Cooler was part of the Z51 package. He is trying to determine the history of this RPO and related items.
Thanks for any help.

I believe it's safe to 'assume' NO!!!
According to the 'Black Book' everyone celebrates there were fewer than 4300 KC4 optioned cars while there being nearly 26000 Z51 optioned cars.

I'm quite sure GM Heritage Documents use 'The Corvette Black Book' as information reference and actually promote it in the first page or so of their documentation.
So you're doubting/insisting my information is incorrect?
This I believe is the GM Heritage Document link for the 1984 Corvette
https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...t-Corvette.pdf
**** I believe it's correct to assume that to 'order' the KC4 package it was required to also have the Z51 RPO. NOT INCLUDES *) See page 20 of the GM Heritage Document!

As for what was or was not included in the Z51 option throughout the years, I can only relate my experience with the KC4 oil cooler option for 1989. (The Hampton Roads area of Virginia had too many rough roads to use a 1984 Z51 Vette as a daily driver.) My first 1989 Vette was an automatic with the KC4 option. (Couldn't get a 6-spd locally.) The Corvette Black Book lists 20,162 cars with that option. My second 1989 6-spd Vette (from a dealer in St. Louis) had the Z51 option which included the KC4 oil cooler. The Corvette Black Book lists 2,224 cars with that option. You can choose who you want to believe. That's your choice. Mine is the The Corvette Black Book.

Hard to say with 84 specifically, a lot of things are oddball for 84s.
However in 86, Z51 did trigger KC4. My 88 Z52 also triggered KC4.
My interpretation of black book is more that the specific option could be ordered separately, as in you could order a base suspension coupe/vert and order the KC4, and that is the number in the book.
For example, in some years, G92 could be ordered separately and triggered G44(?) 3.07s in an A4, but Z51 also triggers 3.07 in 86 and 88 (as did my Z52), but G92 would not be on the RPO sticker, while G44 would.

Just pointing out out that the numbers listed for the RPO options are based upon unique orders, not including other RPO options that may have included that option as a package deal. The 1984 KC4 option listed for $158.00 while the 1984 Z51 option package listed for $600.20.

Here's a very interesting 1984 Build Sheet. There's very interesting information regarding this particular car. It was always 'assumed' that the 3.31 GW4 ratio were all 4 + 3 builds. This is a VIN correct MD8 (trans block #27 Y9) and notice that the KC4 option appears 'no where'!!!! Another oddity for 1984 seems to be that NOT ALL Z51 cars had the FG3 Bilstein Shocks.
Here's another 1984 Z51 Build Sheet

I think it depends on if it's an early, mid or late 84. Not all options were available at the start of production. My 84 is a Z-51 in the 1860s range, but doesn't have the oil cooler, booster fan, or 3.31 gear.

You know everything. I was waiting for this item to be addressed by everyone and then thank them for their assistance. Its experts like you that don't understand what it is to wait and get a complete answer and then thank everyone. The original owner who I sent the information to and waited for an answer is also very thankful. You are very judgmental in something you know nothing about. Again, I thank everyone who helped out and as far as I am concerned, I would like this thread to be closed,

No and I don't believe that's a fair comment. I posted an '84 build-sheet, linked to another pair of them. I believe I validated my comments.
My apologies - I did maybe 'rush' the 'ain't been back'
An interesting other thing I noticed looking at previous build-sheets for the '84. The V01 HD Radiator appears to have been an option for all car builds but it is very likely present on all w/KC4

Very interesting add to the thread. KC4 w/o V01 HD cooling.

I ordered my 84 with the z51 package. It did not include the oil cooler which I added years later.
