Default Is my Opti going out? Symptoms...

I finally got my 'vette back from the shop today. Some of you may remember that last month my water pump went out after I installed the Camber Brace (Not related, just a coincidence). Anyway, I wanted a 160* thermostat and there was a big shipping fiasco with Zip, so I didn't get the 'vette back until today. Anyway, here's the problem. Car still starts, but takes about six or seven clicks before it cranks over and starts. This has happened only ONCE before, and that was before the water pump died, and I could never get it to do that again. This time I turned the car off, on, off, on, off, on and it is the same thing every time. I KNOW this isn't normal, it should start right up. I'm afraid my Opti is going out. Can anyone shed some light on this? TIA.

When my Opti went out, it would just crank and crank, but would never turn over. I also had a fuel pump go out and it acted the same way, so that could be another possiblity. Good luck... :seeya

When my opti started to go...the symptoms were more performance related. Hesitation..."bucking"...and system codes.

That could be many other things, not just Opti related. Ignition switch, faulty ground or corrosion. Do the spark plug check the next time it happens to see if you are getting spark to the plugs.

Maybe it was just being finicky, but I went out today and changed the registration sticker, and out of curiousity I started it up. Started perfectly normal.

EDIT: I have been getting a slightly rough idle around town for a while, but no codes, compression is okay in all cylinders, and nothing obvious is wrong. Mechanic says it might be a spark plug that's cracked because of how loosely the plugs on the LT1 are torqued in, and it may have been tightened too much. If tightened too much, they get a slight crack in them and cause a rough idle. Could this be contributing to the start problem?

My 92 eats optis for breakfast.... usually rough idle in my cars history meant that opti was getting ready to bite it.
Examine all the simple things first though, fuel pump, wires, etc etc

Hmm...I'm getting similar symptoms on my '94...

Just in the last few days. Every once in a while when I go out to start it it just clicks once and does nothing else. All the power stuff comes on no problem. Up until tonight it would start immediately on the next try.

Tonight it took 3 tries (one click and nothing for the first two) and then it started.

Then a bit later it took 4 tries, but the third one was like half a crank before it did nothing else. 4th try started right up.

No problems driving, though. Once it's started it runs like a champ...

My LT-1 has started doing the same thing. One time it took at least 20 clicks before it started. Have checked the battery and all conections. Is the starter going out? :cry
