New owner of an inherited 1986
My dad passed away a while back and he left me his 1986 Vette. It runs great, just a couple valve cover leaks and some minor interior issues that need to be fixed. I couldn’t bring myself to drive it until recently because I could still almost feel him when I sat in it, but the time has come to begin the journey of restoring it to a condition that would make him proud. I’ve never owned a Vette so I joined the forums to gain some knowledge and interact with other C4 owners. I’m in the central Oklahoma area, and there seems to be a large Vette community here so looking forward to meeting some fellow enthusiasts.

Truly sorry to hear of your passing of your Father, but I think he would want you to enjoy his dream car, and show it off and take cruises, and it wouldn't hurt to think your dad is now your Co-Pilot.
I would recommend to join local Corvette Club, cause they know what places to work on C4, and there are dozen Corvette catalog stores for parts.
Also got to any local car show, you will C4 owners and we all love to talk about our car, and get vital information.
Your new car looks beautiful, enjoy it.

I've had good success in curing those valve cover leaks using the FelPro gaskets. They go on without using any adhesive. I use petroleum jelly and coat both sides of the gasket to make them easy to re-use if you need to pull the covers off again. Also check to see that all your spark plug clips are there. With the valve covers off is a good time to replace them if they're not. They are not too expensive from the specialty corvette suppliers and in my opinion are critical to keep your plug wires from arcing.

Sorry for your loss of your father and glad that he left you his enjoyment vehicle for you to enjoy and remember him.
Welcome to the forum where you will get lots of help from a lot of very knowledgeable people here.
I also have an 86. Love the color of yours.
You should post some more info on your car i.e. 4+3 or automatic transmission. Also more pictures and one of the option codes under the center rear storage compartment lid. Those codes will tell you what options your car had from the factory. We all like pictures.

Just to share.. my one son is an auto enthusiast in his 30's and I've told him whatever car I own gets passed down, once I'm gone. You're a good son to maintain and keep the car in his memory. Remember you also need to drop the glass, blast some tunes and hit the highway, too. That's part of the responsibility

Very sorry for your loss. I believe working on that beautiful Vette will be some good therapy, while also honoring your father. Enjoy, and you made a very smart choice joining this forum with all the knowledge you could possibly ask for just a posting away. Welcome....and please post more pictures of that great car.
