Looking At a ‘91 For Sale
Hey guys,
I haven’t been on this forum in years, looking to get back in the saddle with another C4. There’s a ‘91 locally for sale, and judging from pics, looks to be original and in good shape. I will check it out in person either later or tomorrow. Owner is asking $6,600 and it has 69,000 miles. manual transmission. I’ve been out of the loop for 15 years, is that a good price more or less?
Thanks in advance,
Jimmy

I just saw on the ad “Pending”, so we’ll see, probably gone.
There’s an ‘85 I saw that caught mt eye too, maybe I’ll check that one out. ( Its an automatic). My last Two Vettes were 6 speeds, ( a ‘92, and an ‘00 FRC). I’m a little biased towards manuals, but they’re hard to find and an auto is exactly not the end of the world!

Yeah, for a clean stick 91, that was a great price. Not surprised it sold so quick. It's a couple grand under market value.

Sound advice.

I second @Chris44m above, figure out exactly what you want as every years has pros, cons, improvements, etc. I think the biggest things to decide on are early vs. later style exterior, early vs. later interior, L98 TPI vs. LT1 or LT4, and if you want an automatic, 4+3, or 6spd. ZR1s, Callaways, and the like are completely different animals. As someone that just finished their hunt for a C4 a few months ago I will add that once you know what you want, have your cash ready and be willing to travel. Also, don't get too hung up on miles. A C4 like any car if properly taken care of will go the distance and beg for more. Case in point, the '95 6spd I bought for $7K had 187K miles on it. Most would have dismissed it due to the miles but it had been garage kept and maintained all its life and it showed. It has been a fantastic car and most people are blown away when they see it in person. Good luck @C5Jimmy and keep us posted on what you find.

Some great advice here. I think C4s are one of the best values in the Corvette marketplace. The thing to keep in mind is that they drive very differently than the C3s or C5s. If you can be patient and find a clean well-cared for C4, take it for a test drive to see if you like the way it drives and handles. I have a '71 coupe 350/270 and a '91 convertible and they are completely different cars. In my opinion, the '91 is faster and handles so much better than the '71. In terms of maintenance, the '71 has no electronics and I find it easier to work on. However, there can be issues with the vacuum system that controls pretty much everything. The '91 has a clamshell hood which does help to access the engine bay. Anyway, happy hunting and keep us apprised of your search.

Yep, thanks. i’ve had two C4’s ( ‘92 auto vert, and a ‘92 MN6 coupe), and also a C5, a 2000 FRC. Looking back , I definitely like the C4’s better, narrowing it down to an L98 car, maaaaybe even an L83!
I’m probably going to start searching again in the spring.
