Default Is this a good deal? 1985 Corvette

I’m interested in this vette but noticed some rust along the exhaust system in the pics. Anyone has any insight or opinion whether this is a good buy?

Doesn't appear to be too bad of a deal. What you should check closer are the tires. They're not available for those rims any longer. Check the date code on them. You may have to replace both the rims and the tires. Did it on my 85 Z51 for about $1200, plus you will need spacers. My blue 85 came with 89? salad shooters. I recommend all seasons if you do any street driving. Rear bushings look acceptable, though I would check them at the body. It should have the air dam update done also. Simple and somewhat inexpensive. As far as the exhaust goes it does seem it needs some attention. You will definitely want to do your due diligence as some after market exhaust have a bad rep for droning. All in all I think it would be worth seeing and driving it. Check the A/C and the heat and all of the other accessories. My blue 85 has about 60k now (had 44k when I purchased it a couple of years ago) and it has been nearly trouble free. Let us know what you decide.

HTH,

That's too much for an L98 car imo.

Thank you for the feedback, esp regarding the wheels and bushings. I’ll reach out to the dealer to gather more info. In the post they allude to the options being in working order but I’ll ask about the power seat, Windows, ac, electronics being in working order. Didn’t know these wheels were referred to as salad shooters, that’s hilarious.

I think the asking price is about two to three thousand dollars to high in my opinion.

I think the price is fair. Pretty good deal, but not a total steal. It's a clean, low mile corvette that appears to be very well kept.

That said, I wouldn't buy it. The L98, while a good engine, is inferior to the LTx engines. The low miles are nice, but add nothing for me personally. The biggest issue for me is that it's an auto. I have no interest in that.

If those things aren't issues for you, then I think it's a fair price. A comparable mile and condition LTx car from a dealer would be 15k plus easily.

The things I mentioned are definitively what I would use to negotiate a better price.

Plugging the VIN into one of those free VIN check services shows sales records that list the price. Looks like the dealer keeps dropping the sale price. Was 13,900 at one point.

You can still buy the P255-50-16 tires from BF Goodrich for about $600 a set of 4 plus mounting and balancing. The car you are looking at would be a good deal at $6,000.

I looked everywhere a few months ago, even started a thread about it. Didn't have any success.

I was specifically wanting all season so that was probably my problem. Here's the 3 page thread discussing this and some other wheel questions. Thanks for the info!

Asking price is way too high. For reference I bought my 86 (before this winter) with Z51 package and 47k original miles for 5000 dollars.

I think they should knock off a few $$$ because someone doesn't know what a C4 emblem should look like......

hint: DIC panel...

I also think the price is little high, and try to lower it 7,000.00, would be in the right price range.

I like it. I think it's priced right in the ball park.

If you want an all season it may be easier to go down to a 245. Moreoptions and not a substantial size change. I personally have no need for an A/S so the sport comp 2s fit the bill perfectly

As for the OP, I agree, 6-7k is a more reasonable price... 9 is still a little high although it does appear very clean. (The rust on the exhaust happens no matter what)

Have you ever driven C4 for any amount of time equiped with Doug Nash 4-3 tranny?

I have... it works and you won't miss or mistake what gear you're in... but it definitely is a notchy SOB. It feels like a trans from the 60s because it is. But it works.
