1985 No Start Issue
So, I'm having a no start issue on my 85. I had been running just fine, no issues other than the hard start issue. It started one morning just fine and then died. Hasn't started since, never ran rough or anything. Here's what we do know:
It started when spraying starting fluid in the TB and ran for a few seconds, not rough
I have spark
I have fuel pressure
The injectors are pulsing
The injectors are all reading 14 ohms
The fuses are good
I don't detect gas in the oil
When I pulled the new plugs to check they were soot covered and fuel soaked
Plugs changed, no start, but not fuel soaked after cranking attempts
They only things I have done recently was to put a can of Royal Purple fuel additive on the last fill up and Royal Purple engine oil
What else can be checked? I'll probably have it towed to a shop later this week because I don't know what else to do. Your help and guidance is greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you didnt get a tank full of water? I had an issue where my car would run but if you gave it any throttle it would sputter other than that ran fine. Pumped out the 5 gallons and most of it was water.

If you used good fuel cleaner it might have dislodged some debris and plugged fuel filter. Those black specs look like carbon that the cleaner broke up as well.
If it ran on starting fluid then you know your problem should be fuel related. Look at filter.
Also these old cars are not meant for todays alcohol. Look at your rubber lines as well for hard/soft/brittle conditions. But unless you remove one and dissect it you won't know.

Does the Service Engine Soon light come on with key in RUN? (It must, or it won't start).
I like the suggestions that there's something going on with the "fuel" in the tank. Possibly water, or a fuel additive. Those plugs have junk all over them. If the SES light is on, and it will start on ether through the throttle body, but not stay running, I'd siphon the fuel tank dry, and put 5 gal of fresh fuel in it.
85s with a stock calibration need a functioning Cold Start Injector to first-start cold. By "cold", anything below about 75deg F. The CRANK fuse is for the CSI. Easy to check.

The distributor was replaced? Did you install a new one or used? Just thinking that a used one might have spark but not enough to ignite the gas....which looks like crap...

I drained the fuel tank, put fresh gas in, replaced the fuel filter, still will not fire. The plugs are still fuel soaked but I'm getting spark. All I know to do now is throw parts at it. I had a thought, what little I do know about these engines, one thing could cause this could be the coolant sensor? If it's not working or bad won't it confuse the ECM?

I found a lot of water in the fuel system. Turns out the gasket under the sending unit failed to seal and water got in the tank. Drained the tanked, cleared the lines, ordered new injectors. Hope to have it back up and running this weekend.

Same thing happened to me, probably due to all but 4 bolts broke off so when I resealed it I used something called "Hi-Tack" brushed it on the sending unit and tank and hasn't been a problem since.
