What do ZR1 Owners think of other C4s?
#41
Some of you guys came to the C4 having owned a C6 or some other newer Corvette. I am just the opposite. I've owned one or another C2 for nearly 40 years. I've had my 67 437HP coupe (pictured below) for about 25 years. Back in 2008 it seemed to me that the hobby was split between the old Corvettes (C1-3) and the newer Corvettes (C4-6 at the time) and I wanted to explore one of the newer Corvettes. I really liked the unique aspects of the LT5 and was drawn to the ZR-1 as result. I also looked at C5 and C6 Z06s, but kept coming back to the LT5. So I purchased my 95 Red/Red ZR-1 as perhaps a counterpoint to my 67. For me personally, while I did not consider a base C4, I like all Corvettes and have plenty of friends with base engine C4s. Not all of the people out there buy base engined C4s because they can not afford anything else. One guy I know tracks his C4 and drives a Ferrari Dino for fun.

Not sure...C4s consistently win and post the best autocross times......I like em all too. I prefer the "ZR-1" style rear on the C4, but that is a matter of taste. Love the LT-5, but even it is getting a bit long in the tooth. Obviously I'm a ZR-1 guy, but I also enjoy any nice C4..heck I don't think there is a Corvette I don't like! The ZR-1 is an amazing accomplishment for many reasons. It is impressive that it took the next generation C5 6 years to catch up and produce a superior performer. In '98 when John wanted to be the fastest in the shootout, he brought two cars, a C5 and C4 Z, because he knew which would could produce big power.....hint it wasn't the C5

I actually like the "old style" front end, a '90 is my favorite ZR-1 body style, because it retains that, as well as the black rub strip......it really pops on certain colors

I've run across a few ZR-1 owners since I got my 85. All of them have been pretty good people. One had an earlier "base" c4 and now has his ZR-1. He was excited to both talk about his car and mine. (I actually get a lot of questions about the 4+3 in particular, oddly enough.)
The ones that drive me nuts are the ones that don't actually drive the damned car. "It's a rare C4. I've never run it up in the RPMs because I don't want to hurt it." That drives me nuts.
I agree that you will run into jerks anywhere. They don't have to drive any particular car.

However, I've experienced unsolicited ZR-1 propaganda (both on the forum and off) w/o that context. In fact, I've watch/read ZR-1 "sales pitches" happen in conversations that I'm not a participant of! It happens. It's happened to me (even though I know quite a lot about the ZR-1) and I've watched it happen to others, too.
To set the record straight:
*There IS a difference. I believe I said that it was minimal and not enough to motivate me to buy. I'll remain a supportive on-looker, of the ZR-1....glad that other's have them so that I can see them occasionally.
*I believe that I did say it was a subjective thing (not "fact")
*If you think that my comments in this thread are related to my ZR-1 driving experiences expressed in other threads, you've missed the mark, substantially. No....my comments are based on interactions and observations of ZR-1 owners at car shows, C&C's and these here, forums.

Well having owned 10 C4's, 3-84, 2-95, 1 96 LT4, 2-90 ZR-1, 1-93 ZR-1, 1-91 ZR-1. I have enjoyed all of them and have respect for all of them. Own what you want.

That’s BS. I wave to all other Vette gens, even if I’m not driving my ZR-1.
One Of the best things I like about my ZR-1 though, when others see it they have no idea what they are looking at. ZR-1’s are a hidden Beast.

My LT4 actually faired very well today.... Rolling locally with some C7Z06, C6ZR1 buds.... As long as you are keeping the rpm's at 5-6200 she's a blast....
One of my buds in his C7Z actually recorded on his Go Pro... hoping he shoots that to me soon....
Long live the C4.....

If they do, just walk off. It IS that simple. A guy is a jerk to you when you try shake his hand. Walk off and don't look back. Again, it IS that simple. IF he/she wants to separate himself/herself from you, who are you to think they must associate with you?
