C4 Collectability
Do you guys think that the C4's will ever acheive the collectable status of earlier cars? Will the whole "numbers matching" thing be a factor or are our cars not low production / high performance enough?
I'm sure that the Callaway's, Grand Sports, ZR-1's and even the LT4's will get there but what about us with the lowly LT-1 cars?

Re: C4 Collectability (1996Z15)
I think the low-mileage ones will be collectible, but there will be a lot fewer restored ones around. There are so many wires and parts and other junk in C4, frame-off restos aren't going to be as "fun" as doing a C2 or chrome bumper C3, IMO. (Anyway, frames don't come off on C4s.)
BTW, speaking of restoring C4s, what happened to Jon? I haven't seen him post in a long time.

Only the Torch Red ones! :D
My opinion, the most collectible would be the '95 Pace Car, The Malcom Konner Editions,The 88 35th Anniversary cars, the Grand Sports and the Zr1's mainly '93-'95.
The '86 Pace Cars were too many and the '96 Collectors Edition had too many and the '93 Ruby Red's made too many.
Oh, and I can't forget the twin turbo Callaway's.

Re: C4 Collectability (SharkInShark)
Aside from extreme low mileage examples, I think only the low-number production cars that were also the pinnacle of performance for their time will attract signifcant interest (GS, ZR1). It all really depends on the future availability of oil and of governmanet regulations on emmisions and CAFE rules. Remember: the thing that made the 65-71 muscle car era so unique was that it was a PEAK in performance. One that took 15+ years for the automotive industry to reach again after the goverment and fuel crisis killed it in the early 70's. While the 1992 LT1, for example, was a huge breakthrough at the time, progress has continued with the LT4 and LS1 and hopefully many more. If something happens and in 2010 GM is making a 180HP C6 then i'd venture to say that all of our cars will be very collectable. I, for one, hope that they keep getting better

Re: C4 Collectability (Mr Mojo)
 Collectibility!
For anything to be a "collectible", it has to have the promise or illusion of future increases in value!
Will there be any "collectibles" from the last 30 years of auto production? First, what has been the fuel behind the most recent fire? The great rise in auto/muscle car prices?
The Baby Boomers! A phenomenon that is moving through middle age, and into Geriatric care...from HOT WHEELS to Wheel Chairs!
Once the Baby boomers are in financial, health and mobility decline, their taste for cars will be over and many of their cars will be up for sale as their heirs cash in.
And who will be standing in line with money in hand to buy these magnificent machines?
Todays 30 somethings and younger who grew up with "ricers" and whose idea of a great car is the decibels of the sound system and the number of cup holders?
I am not trying to be a doom and gloomer, but the whole "hot car" market is riding on those of us who grew up in the 50's and 60's! And besides me, most of you won't live forever!
So What's collectible? Buy what you like, drive it! Enjoy it and when the Baby boomer down the street croaks, buy his Z06 cheap! :blueangel:

I disagree, there were more Sebring Silver in 1996 than any other color. They made way too many of them.

That is true that they made more Sebring Silver Corvettes in 1996 than any other color. Out of 21,536 1996 Corvettes, 5,412 of them were Sebring Silver Collector Editions. But, I bought one anyway. I still think it holds some "collectability". Not all of them were LT4's and 1996 was the only year the LT4 was produced. It was also the last year of the C4 body style so it's the last of a great car. I'm sure you already know all of this but I just wanted to put my in my .02. There is value in a CE...

I really don’t care about the collectable status of my Vette I plan on driving it until I pass on, than my kids can worry about what its worth. After all you can't take it with you so enjoy it :yesnod:

But, but, it says "collector edition" right on it! :)
I have nothing against the Collectors Edition, but I wouldn't pay any more for one than any other C4 excpet maybe a few bucks for the LT4 which of course as we all know was available in every 6 speed '96.

Torch Red LT4 w/low miles . I think vettes will always be collectables but only the well preserved ones will bring any money down the road. I think that has always been true. I will enjoy it now and take care of it and if it is worth anything in the future that is a bonus!! Guy

Re: C4 Collectability (85vetteguy)
sure they will. just like any other corvette and numbers matching cars will be the same. look at the c3 prices now compared to 10 years ago. no one thought people would want those cars because they were so pleantiful. low production cars, special cars like pace cars, zr-1's, grand sports, lt-4's, these will be the 427/435 cars of the future. 10 years from now the c5 guys will be singing the same song- wow these cars arent worth anything, they are a dime a dozen, no one will ever want these cars like they do the older ones...

Re: C4 Collectability (1996Z15)
Oh absolutely, seems every Corvette we own is "rare" Ever noticed that almost every Corvette for sale is "rare" in some way shape or form
Had a guy at the local gas station who did not know I had an 85,(I was in the 98) tell me "his" Tutone 85 Silver Corvette was rare because of the Tutone color. I had to point out the fact that there were 3 of them, the same color within a 2 mile radius of where we were standing, and who knows how many others are still out there. I suspect in 30-40 years it might be rare, but even then????? He was not too happy with me... :mad
IMO, I suspect there will be a demand for the truly rare cars in 15-20 years from now, but those would be limited production types, not your ordinary Vette bought off the showroom floor, again, just my opinion.

I'm hoping my 90zr-1 is valuable being comp yellow is rare in 90.
I like the 90 for intrinsic value but most people say it will be the 93-95 years that will be worth the big dough.
Who knows.... you gotta drive it and enjoy it.... in reality all corvettes eventually sell for their sticker price or more if you hold them long enough
