Default I broke my cheap opti

The worst part is, I knew better.

While working on my ac rebuild, I sprayed some soapy water at all connection points to check for leaks. Some definitely got on the opti. I figured a little water is really unlikely to penetrate. I might have been right. But soapy water... Not so much. I didn't think about it migrating down the connector right into the opti.

I guess I'm due to rebuild the working 130k mile oem one. Gotta hate it when you make a bone head move.

At least you get good at the repair. It's extra practice.

I ended up ordering a cap and rotor kit from a cell. It appears that it comes with a molded in vacuum port like the msd kit, but is black and not red. I haven't decided where I'm going to pick up vaccum from yet. It seems like running the vaccum up with the wiring would be the easiest option, but we'll see how that goes.

I'm also not sure if this kit will come with all the extra stuff for the vacuum such as lines and valve like the mad kit does. If not, no big deal those are cheap, and I saved over 120 bucks comparatively, and msd reviews were not great.

Keep us posted... I too am guilty of doing something that seems simple and creating more difficult work for myself...

On the bright side... How's the AC?

It works well, when the engine is running lol. I need to fix the vacuum to the programmer so it comes out the right vents, but that was a known issue not worth tackling until the ac worked.

I'm surprised he's not rebuilding customer supplied optis. Maybe DrCook can find out whats up with him.

Fun update, the opti is "OK". Not great, but it's working. The root cause was I was missing a pluff off the opti. The plug was a little loose at the opti, so a little squishishing of the plug and it locked in and all is better.

Thanks for the update.

I always put a bead of RTV silicone around the cap halves (never on the seal, but outside the seal) and around the connector.

You have to do that whether its OEM, rebuilt, made in china, MSD, whatever....

(Ask me how I know .......)
