Luckily they aren't in actual use because of legality issues.

I've been pulled over once for speeding. Dozens of times for tint however.
@84 4+3 Do you have any more info on the drones ?

Thanks Hawkeye56
AFAIK most detectors need a clear line of sight to work properly. There are some that have a separate display unit and receiver, but they are pricey.

Everywhere I've lived has had instant on radar guns. Detectors are about as useful in that situation as pants on a dog.

I've run a Cobra in the '88 since 2000 and another one in the "new" '89.

I dropped the upper trim, snaked the power wire up through the RVM hole and tapped into the RVM power line.
The detector is mounted just to the left of the RVM for easy viewing and has power on/off with ignition.

Cops around hear use radar so I can "hear" them before they can "see" me.

When I used to visit NE OH via I-80 I would cruise around the posted till semi passed me, then just pace behind him.

Just got the Valentine Gen 2 installed over the weekend in my car. It’s the best one I’ve had yet when combined with the app and Waze. I’ve had escorts and passports for decades. Used Uniden the last 3 years. However this new Valentine is fantastic.

Just ordered a Radenso Pro-M. Expensive, but rated best for all radar types as well as filtering out false alerts from GMs, Hondas, etc. I'll update after use...

Units like the K40 have small receivers that mount in the grille and on the rear license plate frame. All but invisible. Audio warning through your radio. Like magic. But not cheap.
Radar detector receivers cannot be blocked by metal, needs line of sight.

At this point its just testing. Its been around since the same time red light cameras were banned. (Christie's first term?) (Come to think of it there may be a clause in that bill)

As of now, its just the state jerking around a toy in some closed location. Eventually sure but not in the near future... literally all I know. A lot of states are testing it though if you look around. Hell we're yelling at people with them.

I have a V1 from around 2010. Still works great but I will be upgrading to the V1 Gen 2 soon. It has saved me from many many tickets. I know they use instant on radar in NY but I have never had one hit me with it that I know about. Seems many officers just drive around with K/KA running non-stop so it's easy to pick them up. I also use waze on longer trips. Also considering a laser jammer as a laser gun is impossible to detect and have enough time to slow down if you are speeding. Laser, not radar as radar jammers are illegal. I like to try my best to know when big brother is watching, not because I speed all the time but because LEO's have been pushed to write ticket after ticket by their superiors. Too many states/cities/towns/villages rely on ticket revenue. Police officers are being turned into revenue officers for the local governments which is wrong. Plus sometimes you are just driving and you find yourself going a bit over, are you driving maliciously, no.

I've got an Escort Redline I bought about 5 or 6 years ago. Had few cheaper Beltronics units before that. Saved my **** so many times! CHP almost always runs always-on Ka band, even when they're hiding and using their laser gun, so I get tons of time to react. Occasionally I'll spot a moto-CHP running laser only, but that's very rare, and they usually aren't hiding very well. There's been a few times when I've left it another car, or at home, and I hate driving without it, feels like I'm naked.

In our town, the cops have radar units that are always on, whether or not they are zapping people. I can always tell if there is a leo within a block or so before I can see it.

Only if youre the only car being singled out. If theyre hitting cars ahead of you, then you have a warning.... Now put your pants back on.

If you are the only car on the road instant on gives them an advantage. If there are other cars around you can pick up the reflections when they ping them.

What is the point.......

With laser guns you are done when you hear the alert, they are good though for spotting slant radar on moving cop cars.
Any cop who knows how to use a radar gun will wait until you are in range and ping you without warning, only radar being used by inexperienced cop's will alert you beforehand.

Detectors are a tool and work great as such. You are correct about laser though. Jammers are the best option there. I haven’t had a ticket in over 25 years. I don’t drive slow but drive very smart👍🏻 Don’t be the rabbit😄
