Default Corvette Magazine C4 Price Guide

The September issue of Corvette Magazine has a nice article and price guide for the C4.
Hope it is alright to post the price guide for anyone that doesn't subscribe to the magazine.

I will give Corvette Magazine a thumbs up for being one of the only magazine left that I still subscribe to,
and still acknowledges that the C4 exists. Nicely printed, beautiful images and a good technical answers section and articles.

There is a legend at the bottom. C is coupe. R is roadster.

I am surprised that there is no difference for auto vs manual (except for '96 LT4). I am also surprised that the prices are so high and they show the change stating the prices went down.

I also wonder how credible it is when they can't even list the right generation. It says "second generation" at the top.

Interesting.

Corvette Magazine is a fine publication. It's written by adults, and for adults. It's the only subscription I maintain, and I hope they survive the current climate for print publications.

Having said that, the price guides they often print are wildly out of touch with any reality that I'm aware of. I don't know what planet the guy who provides them that info lives on, but it's not the same one I inhabit.

Live well,

SJW

Corvette price guides are always controversial and I have no idea if this one is accurate or not.

I did search (Bob Kroupa Vette - N - Vestments) and found this info on their website:

We paid about 7 for the 84 back in 07. Granted we bought it from a friend knowing he fixed all of tw CFI parts. Basically it was bought knowing he was the guy to work on them. It came with in the back but still in boxes: NOS: brakes, rotors, shocks, belts, and heater core. Interior was immaculate and paint was very good as it was resprayed 10 years prior. Tires were brand new and all fluids serviced.

At that time, for a 4 speed car in that shape everyone said it was very fair. I see other 84s going in the area of 5 in marked worse shape so I feel good about that. Regions reflect differently. Season is shorter here, prices are higher. Same thing with new cars. Looking at commercials where suggested MSRP is for sticker a similarly equipped vehicle is a grand or two more. But only sometimes. Makes zero sense. That being said, 17k for a show quality 84 is about 10k too high in the current market imo.

Makes me feel even better about picking up my sweet '89, red/red, MN6, roadster w/ 50k on the clock last year for $9k.
Of course it needed new rubber around so lets call it $10k...

There's a difference between what a magazine says a car is worth, and what a person standing in front of you is willing to actually pay......at least that's been my experience.

The Callaway numbers which are in the ballpark are really just the 1987 numbers. I’m sure the rest were just simple extrapolations based on every newer year being worth a little bit more, but it doesn’t factor other things, like the aerobody, etc. example that are some of the 1991 AB cars which sold over the past few months, for just shy of 50 K

in other words, the price guide is not 100% perfect, which none could truly be anyways

I purchased my 1986 roadster four years ago for $5900.00 with only 35,000 miles on. Red with saddle interior and top and Doug Nash 4-3 trans. With new paint job and other repair costs I have total investment including purchase price $11,000. The car now has 39,000 miles on it don't think I could get that price if I tried selling it. However I have no intension of selling.

The Price of any car is what a buyer is willing to pay a seller... Everything else is subject to.... ??? As far as "book" values, or "magazine" values, neither actually buy cars, and it's really meant to be a guide, or reference only. We ALL want C4's to be valued higher, as we are enthusiasts. The market isn't exactly on the same page.

Those prices are way high. $9,000 for a 95 Corvette Coupe that needs TLC AKA major overhauling? I don't think so. Homey don't pay that.

I paid $6,500 for one with 80K miles that was in good shape. Some scuffs but no major scratches or dents. Some interior wear but no rips or tears in the seats or cracks in the dash. Engine, transmission and clutch were all good. I know prices have ticked up a little since then but not that much. My car right now has 127K miles and still fits all the above criteria with the addition of a new opti, new water pump and new tires. I see cars like mine listed for 8-9K right now but that's asking prices not selling prices. I figure I could maybe sell mine for the $6,500 I paid for it.

Read enough of these price guides in these Corvette magazines and you will realize they are full of ****,not even close to real world prices and I didn’t even look at the pages you posted to know that. Are there any actual pictures of ZR-1s in the article,if so and it’s white it might be mine!
