Chrome wheel junkies...please chime in!!!
I ordered NEW Chrome ZR-1 Wheels, and I am now on my second set of returns. Please take a look at the pics and let me know if this is normal. Out of the 7 wheels I've received, only 1 was perfect. Is chrome plating hard to do? I'm not sure if this is the norm or I'm getting flaw after flaw. Most of the problems are gold spots on the lug holes and on the inner wheel-well. The front seems to be fine.

I have 1 AFS wheel that has a spot like the 3rd pic. I believe it is where the chrome did not adhere to the copper or nickle plate. Probably a spot like grease or oil that was not removed in the prep process. Whatever that is in the last pic around the valve stem hole would simply be not acceptable to me. That one would have to go back.
Although the inside part of the wheel is a PITA to clean with the wheel on the car, I still try to get as much brake dust off when I wash the wheels so the wheels look nice. Most of the time I cannot see any of the plating flaws on the inside of my wheels.
I think I may just remove the wheels this winter and sand the inside surface and use a silver or aluminum paint to cover everything.

NO, not "normal". I would get a refund and find someone else. Even if they did get a full coat, it would probably fall off shortly there after. Chrome rims cost high $ for a reason.

I have no experience with that since mine were put on by the dealer but its not normal. You shouldn't have to put up with quality issues like that from a reputable dealer. If they had any quality inspectors that would be caught before it was shipped to you. I would do like someone else just said, get your money back and find a more reputable dealer to buy from. Chrome rims are easy to take care of and should not have any issues with any sort of deformities at all. I have had mine for over 6 years now and they are still perfect, just like the day I drove it off the lot. BTW I have over 65,000 miles on mine so its not a garage queen either.

If that's the best they can do the 2nd time around, knowing that you have already returned the first set...wouldn't you think they would check them out a wee bit better? I agree with everybody else. Not normal. Get your money back and run like hell.

Mine were inspected before they were put on and when one of them developed a problem about 8 months later it was replaced with no questions asked. Otherwise they are perfect.

I have the spots of copper color on mine too, but the former owner bought them. In the end, this is not acceptable. Send them back and go with someone else, you may have to spend more to get a quality product.
BTW, Chrome wheels on a black car is  :smash:
