That darn little spring in the console lid !
I guess most of us have had to deal with the cheapo little piece of spring-steel breaking on our console lid doors. Has anyone found a way to repair or replace the spring without buying a whole new console lid door? That cheapo spring should cost about 5 cents. Mine broke on my 91 ZR-1.
These are the kinds of things that **** me off about these cars. I already had a 5 cent little clip fall off one of the secondary port acuators which is under the whole plenum/fuel injection on a ZR-1. If I had paid somebody to fix that it would have cost at least $300.

They sell em at all the corvette mags, ecklers, zip, etc.
Around $5 or $14 with the new plastic piece.
Got mine at the local corvette store.

I cut a cube of foam rubber that fits in the area the spring goes... have had no problems with it since then. Nothing rattles.

If you have the Mid America catalog 142K page 4-93. If not call 1 800 500 8388 and order one. You need a Button and spring set for $15.99 Or you can order just the spring for $9.99. Hopefully, the ZR1 is the same as the regular vette. :seeya

I've actually took a small paper clip, straightened it out, wrapped it around a pencil, then fabricated a small spring to fit in there.

I've replaced my console lid spring twice. It's a pain....and it's broken again! I've been thinking of how to make a replacement "leaf" spring like is in there....but i like these ideas better! Thanks!

I went to Home Depot and bought a coil spring about 3/8 dia. 2" long for about 50 cents. I cut it to about 3/4 long with a pair of snips and slipped it into place. Works like new.

I made a leaf spring from a piece of spring steel banding material they use on large boxes and other large parcels. It's hard to cut though. I cut it with a dremel tool and cutting disk. It's been working for a year now.

I know a guy who used one of those extra large telephone company black tie-wraps - things was like 15" long and 3/8" wide... cut it down to fit with a bend and it seemed to work great. Talk about a cheap (and quiet) fix! :smash:

after the second clip broke, I took two small valcro strips to the lid and base and it is quiet and works great.
