Brake upgrade
So, my brake system has failed. I have yet to determine what the root cause is yet, but I know I will need pads and rotors for sure. What has everyone had good performance from when upgrading from stock or is stock the way to go? There are a lot of different brands out there at a lot of different price points!
Thanks in advance.

For the money the C-5 Z front upgrade with stainless brake lines with Hawk ceramic pads ( Very little dust ) all around is a very good deal for the money . I did years this back on a 94 LT-4 and worked great not a high end $2-3,000 set up but all the brakes an old C-4 will ever need for some HP street use .. Just saying that's what I did easy install if one can still find the parts and not a lot of money for what you get .

C5z brakes are the same as base c5 brakes, they're just painted red on the z. And the c5 brakes are barely an upgrade from the j55 c4 brakes, they have slightly higher thermal capacity, but you wont notice that on the street.
There is no reason to go from j55 brakes to c5. If you have the really base model ones, then maybe. C6z is the cheapest oem caliper upgrade that makes any sense

C-5 Corvette on The track of Amearica
I don't just read a book are on paper this looks one way or the other . I really go out and test my stuff and for fact can tell someone how something really works . This is me in my 04 Z 550 HP wile doing 160MPH at the Track of America outside of Austin TX. Hawk pads stainless lines slotted did 10 laps yep the brakes got hot BUT NEVER faded and slowed the old 04 Z down great . The brakes were the least of my worriers worked fine ,slowing down from 160 MPH to making a 90% first turn was my worries brakes works fine is there a better brake set up sure but this worked fine on my 04 and on the 96 C-4 . Just saying . I will never say I know how somwing works unless I have tested it out first ..

That's my vote as well, buy the brackets, get a hold of C5Z Calipers, matching abutment brackets, rotors/pads - Or go to the C6 Z51 brakes, much larger than the base C4 brakes. I've been running the C6 Z51 brakes on my C4 and the difference over my well serviced JL9 brakes was very noticeable.
C6 Z51 brakes will require 18" wheels
C5 Z06 brakes are fine with 17" ZR1/Amold wheels or the 9.5" sawblades (not the 9" wide sawblades without hitting/trimming), along with most 17" wheels
Make sure you purchase from a manufacturer that sells C4 to C5 brake adapters WITH MOUNTING HARDWARE included, you will need new hardware to mount the brackets and C5/C6 brakes or you will be scrapping last second for a variety of metric bolts, washers, locking hardware. The old bolts wont be in the correct lengths and probably shouldn't be reused (TTY bolts).
Then all you need are the C5 or C6 STD or Z51 brakes (rotors, pads, abutment brackets matching the calipers you pick). A few guys are running around with C6 Z06 brakes and ofcourse much pricier Baer/Stoptech/SSBC/Wilwood/Brembo/APR, some of the latter mentioned kits runs as much as some C4s in the for sale section sooooo
Goodluck

^ it sorta was actually...but that's another story
If your budget allows for more complete Big Brake Upgrades we can put you into a very nice 13" kit for about $1500 to the door. Compared to other lower cost options, while more money, far more value for it.
Questions; just ask.
