Default Someone hit my car today

Well my 1990 Corvette was damaged by someone backing into it, I had pulling out of a parking space and pulled behind a car waiting to leave the parking lot , a young lady in a 2019 honda civic started to back out of her parking space towards my car, i was honking my horn seeing that she was coming towards me i had nowhere and no time to go anything so she hit the rear quarter panel cracking it and damaging my wheel, I got out of the car to check damage then she gets out of her car claiming i hit her and calling me some names and my car a piece of crap, and other things i cant repeat, I told her unless i drove my car drove sideways there is no way my car and can be damaged as it was, at that point she got really angry at me, So i just said to give me her info, she refused saying she didnt want to give any personal info, drivers licence and insurance. at that point i said if you dont give it and leave i would report you leaving without providing this to the police, she finally gave it, anyhow a fun day, not sure how hard its going to be to find or repair the rear quarter

That really sucks. Bad enough it happened to begin with, even worse how she handled the situation.

Always call the police as it makes the adjuster job easier and for the guilty party insurance will have to pay out.
Good Luck

Another vote for always calling the police and even more so since other driver didn't want to give you information. Add to that, she originally blamed it on you. Even though it happened in a private parking lot and the police probably couldn't write a ticket they would ensure you got all the needed information from other driver. Would also give you additional backup if other driver try's to deny responsibility with insurance carrier.

In most places, police will not show up for a non injury accident. They’ve got better things to worry about. The insurance companies are not dumb, take good pictures and it is enough.

Wow, sorry to hear that. What a crummy experience.

I've been hit twice in private areas (one was a stadium parking lot). The police in my area will not come out to investigate.

It seems it does depend on individual department policy, about a year ago my car was hit on a private road at a hospital and police did respond when called. They even cited the other driver for running a stop sign.

Not so here in Missouri; they have plenty to worry about true, but this is one of the things they have to worry about; someone could be intoxicated, tensions could rise, etc. And my insurance company; first thing they would ask for is an accident report; not my version of it. The he said she said thing doesn't work well w/o a third party incident report. In this case, the little girl will say it is his fault with her own version. Now you leave it up to someone else to interpret what happened, so good luck.

As far as private parking lots; moot point. Will the police not come to your house because it's private property??

Anytime you get hit, it sucks, especially in a C4 (read: takes little to 'total' it), and sucks (squared!) if hit in a private parking lot!

From personal experience (AAA insurance), pictures will tell the story, AND put the blame on the other driver. (like you said, you'd have to hit her with the side of your car...ain't gonna happen, especially in a parking lot. Your insurance co will figure that out instantly!) Witnesses and especially a police report would be helpful when going to court when you have to take her to "Small Claims Court" unless her insurance co agrees to the photo evidence and pays. Otherwise, it will be up to the judge to view the evidence and make a decision.

The judge is fully aware of the probability of not having a police report when the minor accident (no injury) happens on private property (he'll prolly listen to several more incidents like yours that same day!). So, unless the girl was the mayor's daughter or the like, chances are you'll get a favorable hearing.

Now...The quarter panel and wheel: Jason at Vette2Vette.com may be able to provide a replacement quarter panel (rear section, actually). And, then there is the wheel and a paint job.To have it repaired and painted, it might run $3-5k ±. So, be ready to battle with the insurance company (yours or hers) which ever is likely going to want to TOTAL it and write you a low ball check.

Bottom line: the issue is not getting it fixed. It's getting the estimates and battling the friggin insurance companies that will be the REAL PIA!

Hope the best of luck for ya. Been thar...Done that (twice!). But, persevere and you'll come out on top. (Anyway, I did...TWICE!).

Well, good luck. I hope the pictures are all they need with your word. I hope the person "at fault" has insurance or you have that correct information; at least that part of it. I would never let anyone drive away unless I knew it was totally my fault; then I could consider that a lucky day for me.

Sorry to hear this. Hope you go lots of pics for the insurance company. Are you near Ohio? I might be able to help you out with getting the paint work done.

My son's car got hit in his high school parking lot. Police did come but would not site the other kid because schools are "private property". They did create a report.

The other kid, one of my son's best friends, is a stand up kid and admitted to being at fault. His dad was having a fit trying to get him to shut up. My son's car was parked and his friend swerved to miss anon coming car because he was on the wrong side of the road.

The funny part was, my son called and told me his friend hit him, my first response was "what did you say to **** him off"?
