Default Check out this craigs list ad, Im guessing its a stolen vette NM its Legit!

So came across this tonight on my local craigs list https://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/c...901285373.html

Guy claims its an 86 that was restored with parts from a 94, but theres no way. Way to much later model stuff that wouldnt need to be changed over. Only thing I bet he actually swapped was vin plates, if he even did that

Well I was wrong, its legit and keg just did a great job on it, Pretty impressive

I guess anything is possible..... but that would be a tremendous amount of work. Everything says 1994, even the windshield washer reservoir.

I really want to see a picture of the vin plate.

I cant tell for sure with the shadows, but it looks to me like the shock mounts are the newer style, so that means the frame is from 94, plus speaker holes in the floor instead of door. Just things that would be really hard to change over, and just not worth dong. Hood prop on the other side. That and it all looks factory. It just cant be an 86. If out bodys could come off the frame, would make a little more sense, but still no way. Just to much work to be worth it.

I did just notice something though, it has the 88 and earlier catches for the top. 89 to 96 were different. Which means that the windshield frame is early...… and that is where the VIN is.

Come on now...Like somebody would go to this extent to sell a car for 8 grand? You mean to tell me they converted the A/C to 134, swapped the entire interior...seats, dash, instrument cluster, airbags, hvac controls.....traction control...6 speed trans....engine....suspension.....wheels ....bumpers, bodyside moulding, paint....obviously the PCM, CCM, ABS/ASR hydraulic control unit as well as hard brake lines, to make everything work...I'm not buying it.

I'm thinking, in reality, you have a VIN swap here. somehow, that 94 was without a title, and they picked up a junk 86 for the VIN/title. happens a lot in the kit cars and street rod hobby. for a fee, there are actually folks out there selling old car titles. i'm sure it's an underground operation, and operating just this side of the law. personally, i'd stay clear of that 94 -

Unless someone was obsessive/compulsive, I don't see how anyone could do this for twice the price. The only way I could see pulling this off for this price is if everything is free or stolen. Looks good but I wouldn't touch it with heat mitts as it looks that hot to me.

comparing that car to my '96 everything is correct for a 100% stock 94. The MAF is there, the entire engine compartment, down to the shrouding and angle of the radiator looks just like my '96.

Plus the car would have had to been painted.

I think you (op) found a $3.00 bill.

But, it looks like a pretty nice car! Often on craigslist I'm shocked at how little people know about their own cars. The best is the "target top".

after studying the pics, especially the engine compartment, there is no way in hell that thing started out life as an 86. from a configuration standpoint, things are too "factory" correct. i'm not sure if it's even possible to pull off that off kind of conversion. if it is true, the owner must be some sort of a restoration genius.

Most adds like that on CL end like this. You send an an email and get this reply. "Hi, I'm leaving for the middle east, I'm in the service and I can't afford just to store the car while I'm away. Wire me the money and I'll send you the car & title."
I guess there are people that get suckered into that cuz I see those add all the time.

The seller also posted an ad in the Pacific Northwest section with a couple of pics. If the car was in fact an '86, somebody did a really good job to make it look like a later C4. No way in hell that I would even consider buying it. Too many things that don't seem right. Wonder what the stamped last 10 characters of the VIN are; they are located on the front of the frame rail just below the battery/

1. VIN

2. My dad was nutty enough to do this to a Ford Probe back in the day. switched EVERYTHING to get it a titled running car., EVERYTHING! Nothing but barely a shell left of the original.

3. Wheel backspacing and suspension says everything was changed

4. Body panels are VERY nice lines

Stolen or damaged car with a washed title of some kind. or the owner is clueless.

The amount of work that had to go into this is just incredible, but after looking at the sellers profile and post history I’d say it’s legit! There are past posts making reference to the conversion, and also a lot of parts for sale adds for various little bits off a 94, which lends credibility to having a donor car and selling off remaining parts not used in the conversion. From the pics, the attention to detail on the swap is fantastic.

I did mention that the catches for the convertible top were the early style.

Looking at his profile I am guessing the yellow C4 that went turtle in his profile pic is the donor car......

Jared

P.S. I gotta say, he is my kinda guy for pulling it off!! I really appreciate when you can pop the hood and everything looks factory correct. It took a lot of work to get factory looking results when I installed the L98 in my S-10 pickup. Go for OCD, or possibly ADHD!!

here's the member's 2014 post on this 86-94 conversion. as I said, if he really pulled this off, this guy is some sort of genius. I still think things are too factory correct for that thing not to be a 94 w/ 86 VIN. no flames KEG64, but I have my doubts -

Joe, if you scan his posts a bit further. He has a pic of the shell and you can see where he changed the firewall, trans tube and floor speakers. Im 90 percent sure its legit now, just cant believe someone would put that much into and then sell it. That would be a lifetime keeper for me
