Hi-psi CF member in serious accident
Hey, some of you C4 guys have talked with a member here named Hi-psi. He is a Georgia C4 owner and an active poster on this board. I wanted to let those of you who know him hear what happened to him last week:
He is a great guy and we all feel bad this has happened to him. So we are pulling together and are going to hold a fund raiser for him in the Atlanta area. It looks like it will be a car show, sponsored by Hooters of Kennesaw on November 17th. I will post the details on it in the events section and here when they are finalized. Thanks guys!

Saturday afternoon, Hi-psi (Robert) was involved in a bad car accident. He is still alive, but he is really messed up. We found out Saturday evening, and drove down to Augusta. We didnt know if he was going to pull through the night.
He was driving his Regal to the parts stored to pick up something for his vette, when an old 70's model cargo van hit him head on doing about 50mph. The driver of the van was trying to avoid a DOG. Roberts car was pretty much broken in half. When the first witness arrive to Robert, he was unconscious and his eyes were open and rolled back into his head. He had stopped breathing at one point, but managed to save him. They had to get the jaws of life to get him out of the car. The steering wheel was in the passengers side, and the dash was on Roberts lap.
Robert has suffered numerous head injuries and lacerations, he also has a broken hip, broken leg, broken jaw, broken chin and has stitches on all the above mentioned areas. They did 8 hours of surgery on him to repair his hip and his leg. His left arm was severed so bad, that he has about a 12 inch laceration all the way from the middle part of the bottom of his arm to the bicep. He has yet to move his left arm. He cannot move it at all. They have been worried about more bleeding on the brain, but the c-scans look ok for right now. This morning, Robert woke up, and was unable to move his left leg or the left side of his mouth, along with the left arm. We still dont know what has caused this.
Now, what makes ALL of this even worse, Robert had no health insurance through his place of work. He always said he would never need it because he never got sick. He only has liability on his car, and even though the driver of the van was charged, this butt had NO insurance, and was driving around with a stolen tag. The police informed Roberts mother, that even though it was NOT Roberts fault, it looks as if they will be responsible for all these medical bills, because that butt in the van was a kissing retard!
It looks, as long as he stops having set backs like he has this morning, he will remain in the ICU for a few more days. They originally put him in the Shock Trauma ward until Sunday afternoon, then transferred him to regular ICU. Once he leaves ICU, he will be taken to a Rehab type hospital to learn to walk and function again. We are expecting Robert to be under the care of a hospital for at LEAST 2 months.

Once I get home...I'm in too...
Right now they don't know how he'll come out the other side of this...but it's almost always 1000% better than the doctors originally say...stay positive and you'll be amazed at what can be accomplished!

Our prayers are with him and his family. I was wondering even if the other jerk driver did not have insurance, he might have property, funds, estates, or family funds that could be attached through civil action. Justa thought.

Re: Hi-psi CF member in serious accident (Z06NIN)
Thanks guys! Here is an update from Hi-psi's best friend.
Update on Robert LaFontain........
I just got off the phone with Robert, and BOY he sounds great! For the first time in days, he actually sounds like himself. He is beginning to be able to move his left leg and his left arm just a little. Not much, but any movement is better than none! He says he doesn't have very good control of the arm or leg, but he is able to move it. I was VERY pleased to hear this!
They are planning on doing surgery on his jaw tomorrow. The doctors are not sure if they will have to wire the jaw shut, or if they can repair it without wiring it. Either way, he has surgery tomorrow. They are going to try and move him from the ICU to the Rehab ward tomorrow as well. These are all good things!!!
The driver of the van that hit Robert was discharged earlier today, from what Robert has been told. Roberts family has already spoken with an attorney and a social worker from the hospital to try and gain assistance for the bills, and what legal action they can pursue against the other driver.... that is, if the other driver has anything worth going after.
Robert couldn't stress enough how much he appreciates everyone help and support throughout all of this. He had no idea so many people could come together. He wanted to let everyone know "Thank you, to everyone here for your kind words, donations, prayers and anything you have done to help him!"
This has meant a lot to Robert, his family, and also, to all of his friends. We will never forget all you have done so far and continue to do. As soon as all the details of the Benefit Car Show that we are planning are final, I will make sure to let Flood know. Again, thank you all so very much, the prayers are working.

Please be generous folks! My dad fell from his tractor trailer and crushed the front of his skull, nearly killing him. 5 days in a coma, 7 days in the ICU with no insurance. $100K in bills will follow him the rest of his life. Lets do what we can to help Robert out here
