I never heard of the C4's rear window being referred to as big and ugly...

I do like the ground effects though. I think that style of rear spoiler is simply butt ugly. I would prefer one more on the lines of the C3 cars had.

I also have seen this body kit on C4 back in the day of C4, and to each is own.

Yeah.....some of those modified cars look like the owner was actually HAVING a stroke when they were created. Get over it man. There will always be lots more owners who prefer "stock" over any " heavily modified" old Corvette. Turning them into circus wagons doesn't necessarily make them something that EVERY Corvette owner will drool over. I don't think there will be any lines forming for them when, and if, they ever go up for sale. Quiet mods are cool. Going overboard with them is a bit foolish and uneducated in the real Corvette enthusiast world. Meaning Corvette owners who own them for decades. Not a few months.

I can assure you that as you drove your stock c4 down the road someone made a similar joke out of you. This is why I stopped or at least greatly reduced "making fun" of people for their likes and choices.

All of us take the risk in just owning a c4 in being the butt of a joke.

Sad.... it seems that you have such a negative feeling about owning a C4 with that reply. So you say you've actually had people make fun of your car? I've owned mine for well over 10 years and can only count on one hand any negative comments said to me about it. Most of the "jokes' are posted on forums like this from people who don't even own a Corvette. Don't let those type bother you. They're clueless.

Nothing negative my friend. the c4 is clearly if you have not figured it out yet a very undesirable car. Nobody bothers me, you missed the point completely.

OK, You're entitled to your opinion as well as I am mine. "Very undesirable"? Man what crowd do you hang with? Because we don't pull high figures on these cars, you consider them undesirable? Because you hear jokes about them from clueless people, you consider them knowledgable people? Do you equal high values with desireable?. The more they cost, the more desirable they are? Not even close in my opinion You let the people with the color coordinated car chairs and shirts at car shows get to you?. If you truly have and keep your C4 in great condition, you won't hear or even pay attention to the nay sayers you speak of.

That's still a lot better than a jacked up car with 24"-26" rims.

As we go from generation to generation, the newer one will criticize the older one, that styling was what is in at that time. I have my 1984 with period correct items like wood dash kit, wood steering wheel, one and a half din stereo, BBS style wheels etc, etc. I would not change a thing on it.

As customs go it looks pretty good. With the hatch definitely in town beach cruiser.
Why is the Corvette crowd overly purists. There are a regular stream of non positive comments. Body kit, wheels, wheel color, accent stripes...etc
Callaway, Rippie, Gulstrand, and Greenwood all built customs. Yes, there are some that are a little over the top and quite gaudy. Those were done for a particular owner are in the minority. The black c4 monstrosity and c4 airplane blend have been over shared. Callaway seams to be the only immune to criticism.

Why do people customize their cars? Hmmm that’s a loaded question, there are whole professions in figuring out why people do what they do.

Not for me, but to each his own, and if the owner liked it, that's all that matters. Just glad to see a C4 making the rounds.

They do it because they want to, and they can. Probably won't help the resale value of the car but I suspect that is not a concern for the owner.
Personally I don't like it, but I do like that people are doing what they want to do with their cars. Just not my cup of tea.
