I will not install external releases for thieves and vandals.

I used 12" black vinyl coated steel leaders from bass pro (stock # 215703)
I took the clip and swivel off. Then the loop slides into the existing cable clip
Then drilled a hole in the seal
I tried to take a pic of the end by the wipers but it doesn't show up.

Seriously? No one is going to go looking at a 1995 C4 for external hood release cables so they can open your hood and steal or vandalize it. No one except the owner would even know what they were.

Perfect guys, thanks!!! I did finally get the hood open but had to take the inner fender skirt out. luckily it was not a broken cable only the grommet came out of the slot.
I tried that tool over and over and never could get it to work! I just don't understand why GM engineer's did not plan for this!!!!
I will be getting the bicycle wire TODAY!!!!!

I'll add that to get to mine you would pretty much need to stop the wipers in the up position. If they can do that the're already in the car.

Many people who have that metal rod type tool have never used it. When they do have to use it because the hood release doesn't work, they fumble around back and forth twisting and turning it trying to figure where it's supposed to be inserted into the door jam area blindly trying to figure out where the release is.. That's when the scratching of the paint happens. But I hear tell that if you're a caveman you can do it perfectly with no marks. You're making the right choise with the cables.
I get some people can't figure out how a tool works. Bless your heart. It worked for ME first and second time (both sides) without a scratch. YMMV.
The tool was designed by Gordon Killebrew. Google if you don't recognize one of the most knowledgeable C4 sources in the world.
I hope to never need it, but good to know it's behind the seat.
BTW, do you know how long it takes to remove the ECM? Just saying'

Not at all. Allow me to re-interate what I actually wrote for the reading impaired.
If you wish to use one of the most well known, common mods to make your C4 hood and it's innards accessible to anyone, go for it.
Also, fishing line leads are supposed to work well and are cheap.
Personally, I will rely entirely on the tool. Even if I am the only Corvette owner in the entire world who does. It simply works.

Given the number of rare/expensive/unavailable stuff under my hood, I'll play Vegas odds instead.
Still, I'll gladly pay shipping on the tool you don't want.

FWIW:
One of my emergency cables failed a month or so ago, preventing the passenger side latch from releasing.
I bought the bent rod---$2 worth of rod & $17 for the piece of tape saying how far to shove it in---and it worked like a charm.
The regular cables worked fine after that & I installed a new emergency cable Friday.
