Many of the questions I get fall into the "advertise speed" category. Stickers, wings, lights, lowered suspension for no known (to them) reason other than "I saw it on a movie", louder exhaust to make it sound badass, wheels that stick out of the fenders, wheels with an extremely low profile tire, etc, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'd have no problem with you talking to me about some Honda Civic you built up with some wicked speed or acceleration. I'm just not interested in the fart pipes, spinner wheels, ridiculous sized wheels with rubber bands for tires, wings, etc, etc. Somehow a fake chute at the back with wheelie bars and a sound recording of a turbo spooling up doesn't seem to interest me.

Dunno. Maybe it's me but I seem to find most of the people talking to me about my car they saw are in that category hence I'd rather not initiate or engage in a conversation with them.

I have gotten this a little, i find it funny...

I also have found people look irritated at me when i tell them i have a corvette...

I even used it to get a random guy to stop talking to me, i saw an opening and the conversion ended!!

Often coming off of the freeway i see a bum sitting there with a give me money sign, they take one look at the car and start holding the sign higher and with some motion making direct eye contact...

Cracks me up.

Also when i first got my car i had some random dude driving a minivan make direct eye contact, then gave me an angry expression, then proceeded to try and run me off of the road with a laugh...

I always make sure I'm pack'n when driving the vette...
gotta have thick skin to deal with some people... And a firearm helps...

That said, most of the reactions i get with the car are very positive!

This one has certainly gotten old by now. Almost pathetic. I'm sure that the type of negative responses being said to have been given back to people who comment or compliment their car are nothing more than pure . Most of the 'tuff guy" negative comments literally never happen. Many people don't know much about cars. So when they say something nice about your car, just accept it and move on. Saying that you ignore them and tag them as being offensive is just ridiculous. We all see jerks out there when it comes to cars. Lets not add to that population.

It is an excellent opportunity to brag and/or show off, and spread some BS.

Nice is in the eye of the beholder. Think about it this way. You have someone you can't stand that works with you. At the company party, he complements your wife's dress (unless you are wearing it) and you have to say "Thank you. We got it at Sears.", wouldn't you rather not have that conversation? I know I would.

Just say "Thank You" and end it there and not tell him that the dress came from Sears. Or this could be your opportunity to lie and say it came from Nordstroms or something from an overpriced dress shop on Rodeo drive.

If you can't stand him then the lie would be perfect.

Absolutely. Which is why I have to say "Thanks" or something like that. As I said, I'd much rather not have to say the obligatory niceties which is why I kinda am happier when they just not notice my car which is hard to do since it makes a racket coming down. If I could quieten it without hurting flow cheaply, I'd probably do it. Unfortunately, a Corsa system would probably cost more than I'd be willing to spend.

Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with talking cars with you but this idea of oversized wheels that stick out and asking me if "Naaws" would work on my car better if it had a computer control like they saw does get old.

he claims that i cant relate because i am a 'rich white guy that drives a corvette'.

mind you he has a 38000 new ford explorer

When I mention that I have a Corvette the first thing out of peoples mouths is , What year is it? when I tell they become glassy eyed trying to figure out in their mind what it looks like. Sometimes I feel defensive and mention that I don't have that much money in it so that I don't come off as some pompous a___. Some people have preconceived ideas about Corvette owners. I see this also on the road on how some people want to mess around with you.

After 22 years I still get the "extension of your manhood" comments from smart-assed chicks, always in front of their posse. I just reply "yeah, the last time you s---ed it, it was only huge. Now it's gigantic!" At that point they always go
