Default New Stereo

I have a 1987 coupe. I just recently purchased a used 1985 Bose head unit and ALL the speakers only to find out the head unit is in worse condition than the one I replaced it for. The speakers however are in fantastic condition! No crackles, no buzzing, much louder than my original ones. The unit out of the 85 has nice clicking buttons but the display is not working entirely. Both units seem to have transistor issues in the volume/power **** and the channel ****. With my original unit the volume would go way low until I gave it a few good smacks. The 1985 unit couldn't seem to find that sweet spot to give me a proper signal to the station. I did find one good spot but even then the stereo was turned all the way up and only barely audible. I really do love these head units, much easier to use than what's out today. Is there any way to rebuild them myself or is that not advised? I could send it in for 100 bucks but I don't know what I'm going to get. if I do decide to send in which one should I send in? My original unit or the 85?

I found this (https://www.ebay.com/itm/181293744248) on eBay and am curious if it will fit and or work with the Bose speakers. Still has an originally look but with all the modern hook ups like AUX and Bluetooth which is nice. I have tried contacting the seller twice about installation concerns but have not heard anything. Has anyone ever tried this unit? Does it fit nicely? Sounds good? Can you use original speakers? I have a set of infinity 6x9 speakers and a set of JBL front speakers but I hear you have to cut the front speaker boxes. Re-wiring isn't that big of a deal for me.

I don't think that unit will work with the original Bose stuff, but if you don't mind running new speaker wires to the aftermarket speakers it should be OK. There is a vendor (?) that does radio repairs/rebuilds, but I can't remember the name right now. Dons maybe ? Try searching "Bose radio repair.

I gave up on rebuilding the Bose in my 88 after the cassette died and replacing all the speaker amps, some twice. I went to a JVC CD/DVD single din player with Bluetooth. You don't have to run new wires unless you want to run a separate amp. Get an electrical FSM for your year.

My Bose system was toast, door speakers were turning to powder. I replaced w/all new Kenwood components including a 40w power amp and all new 16 gauge speaker wire.

I would not recommend the Kenwood head unit, impossible to read the display in daylight.

What's a decent 1.5 din to fit in there then? I don't want a DVD player or a flip up, I don't need all that. I love the original **** set up that's why I'm seriously considering the one I linked. I finally got a message back and they said yes I can use my original speakers I just have to purchase some sort of limiter basically.

For factory Bose repairs, this place has been around for a long time and has a good reputation from what I've heard.

I contacted my in-town corvette specialist, C&S Corvette, hopefully he'll get back to me about a stereo rebuilder. As for the alternative I've been referring to, I sent some more messages on eBay and the person I was talking with said to use this https://www.ebay.com/itm/361390562833 and I'll be able to use my original speakers.

If it comes to removing the entire system, fine, that's not a big deal. I just can't stand the touch screens and the big screen head units or the flip out. I like the ***** lol. Much easier to select channels and so forth. AUX capabilities is good too. This 1.5 inch din looks amazing too. But at a 350 dollar price tag it seems a bit steep, right?
