Almost dead center on the front, about a foot long running front to back and a couple mm wide :confused:

What the heck could have caused that?? age?? anyone else have this happen??

Must have been under tension somehow and it just gave up. :confused:

My wife's Plymouth Satelite was sitting in the driveway one day and one of the front torsion bars broke in half. :eek:

Nope, sitting in the driveway!

I just noticed the crack is completely closed while sitting in the sun but in the shade of this morning it was open about 1/16 of an inch.

I'll post some picks when it opens back up.. I'm thinking it cracked simply from stress over time..

Welcome to the I replaced my top club. It just happens from time and age, they flex all the time and one day they just give up. It sucks but its life with a Vet. I got my replacment from John at Davies Corvette very happy with price and quality.

try calling your insurance! I know Mr. Maggo had a top replaced for free under the "free glass" clause in many states. :yesnod:

It just happens, like the man said. It's acrylic plastic, and acrylic degrades over time with exposure to UV light.

It comes from the factory with a UV coating, but if you don't keep the top waxed or covered, it just gets more and more brittle.

Mine split just like that about a year ago. I didn't call the insurance agent. I just bought a new lens. Money$$ :cry:

Those tops just eventually go. But usually they develop small spider cracks first.

Thanks, We thought of that and we'll see what they say.. The original owner still has the fiberglass top so I guess it's time we picked it up from him, only been 3 years :eek:

Yep. Been there. Mine was just sitting at work, came out and the top was cracked. Looked a lot like yours. I did the Astro top thing. Seems to be a pretty good piece, but after I boxed up my original and sent it off, I noticed that their weatherstrip is not nearly as nice as my original was. Wish I had traded them out before I sent it off.

I think calling your insurance agent is the best route. Your rates cannot be raised as a result of a glass breakage either. Good luck!

I know how you feel. I am also a member of the "I replaced my top" club mentioned earlier. We saw an ad in a Corvette magazine saying that the company would replace just the lens for $500. Your frame has to be good, but yours seems to be fine. The company was called Astro Tops and their website is http://www.astrotops.com if you want to check it out. Good luck replacing your top!

Hey Sharky, gonna have to disagree with you on that one bro. I had several windshields replaced under this provision over several years. After a while, Travellers (First Floridian :U :troll ) cancelled me. Said I had too many claims. When I questioned them, they noterd the windhields as "claims", same as crashes, etc.
