Exhaust Tip Discussion
If this has been discussed before I can delete this thread-
My neighbors don't enjoy my Corvette as much as I do and I suspect that has to do with the amount of noise it creates.
Right now it is 3" mandrel bent tubing going to Flowmaster 40s:
To help tone it down, it was suggested that I bring it down to 2.5" and switch to Magnaflows. While it wasn't the topic of the thread, I'm all ears for suggestions/thoughts on that matter too.
Then there is the issue of tips. Right now they are ovals, which they have been since I took possession of the car. What are some opinions? Any new ideas? I will follow up as this is completed.

I've been liking those a lot. I think c4s need dual tips and I prefer oval like the Billy boat exhaust.
As far as mufflers go I always loved the sound of moroso spiral flows if they are mounted far enough in. I run chambered muffler elims on my 95 and love them, all else is stock but soon to change.
Once your neighbors start paying your bills you can listen to their complaints, stick with what you like and just keep your foot out of it in the neighborhood. It depends which magnaflows you get too, I think they make quieter flowmasters too then the 40 series. I'd like to see if a set of warlocks would fit since they are adjustable.
I say leave it 3 inch and just try to get it quieter if you really want to. I wouldn't get rid of the 3 inch for 2.5. Not sure if you're y pipe or dual but a set of spiral flows in front of the flowmasters on it already would quiet it down enough, or a borla straight thru muffler, any bullet style Would integrate easily.

Flowmaster 40's can be fairly loud and the cam does make a difference in sound at idle. You could go to the Flowmaster 50 series which would quiet the idle note down a little more.
Also look at the DynoMax Ultra-Flo mufflers or Magnaflow. Borlas are nice but pretty pricey and most of the mufflers are pretty loud.
IMHO, that idle is not really loud at all. I'm not a real fan of Flowmaster sound but listening to the vid, I don't really see a problem. It all depends on how you drive the car in the neighborhood or how long you let it idle.

Flowmaster’s 40 Series family of mufflers are some of the most aggressive mufflers that we offer. If you are a fan of the Flowmaster sound but are looking for a less aggressive exhaust note, we can help. Flowmaster produces a number of options for your 1987 Corvette that will be less aggressive than the 40 Series, such as the 50 Series Delta Flow. If you would like more information, don’t hesitate to shoot me a PM or give us a call at 707-544-4761.

Thank you for the pictures, We Gone. Nice cars!
Mike, I'll discuss with my installer and be sure to get in touch if I run into anything. Thanks for checking in!

Flowmaster 40s vs. Corsa
The only thing changed was the mufflers. The rest of the system remained unchanged (Hooker long tubes, 2.5" duals w/xpipe and no cats). This is on a 383 with an LPE 219 cam.

I am drooling listening to your second video. I get the impression that they are just as loud as the 40s though?

Are you running dual 3 inch pipes all the way or for do you have a y merge to a single pipe then it splits again to dual exit? In any case my suggestion was to put the spiral flow in front of the rear axle on whatever you have, dual 3" or single 3". I know 92-96 have dual pipes underneath after the factory resonator and earlier systems had a y pipe. If it's still a y you'd save some money just needing one spiral flow or borla xr1 or whatever you'd choose, but they would go in the middle of the exhaust system so no one would know they are there.
For tips you can just weld new ones on behind the flowmasters.

Those 40s sound like garbage compared to the corsa mufflers. I've never ran a flowmaster muffler, hooker, moroso, slp, magnaflow. I loved the spiral flows the best, perfect growl and sound through the rpms. Was on a 94 z28 with long tubes and off road y pipe.

trilkb thank you for your input!
Right now I have dual 3" all the way. I pulled the trigger on the 2.5" Corsa catback system yesterday. I am going to spend time with my installer on Monday to discuss the idea of something in front of the rear axle should the noise level still be too loud.
