Why are C4's so cheap?

I spend a lot of time driving for work and, as a car guy, tend to notice other cars on the road. I probably see anywhere from 5-10 Corvettes a day. Probably half are C5s, with a few C6s in the mix. Almost all the rest are C7s. At best, I'll see one or two C4s in a week. Really nice examples seem to be few and far between!
IMO, the C4s are under-appreciated by the general public, and have been for a while, but a really nice one sure turns heads! I had a guy track me down in the produce section of the grocery store to tell me how much he liked my '95 after he saw me pull into the parking lot.

I see a lot of C5 and C6 and not to forget C3 which in it's 15 years of production built over 542,000. There was over 358,000 C4 built over 13 years with the 1984 being the highest year at over 51,000.

We never got that far off topic... ? Corvette have been in basically all the responses.
I hope you don't mean to stay on the SPECIFIC topic of why the C4 is cheap... If so this would be the first thread in the history of ever to be required to stay on it's original topic...
Also what does "PRC" mean?

I'm HOPING and guessing they cleaned up the thread where people brought politics in to it. HOPING.

The kids today dont like them.
They are not as flashy to the general public.
They cost more to make go fast
They are not old enough to be cool
You have to be in your late 30's to have wanted one when they were new.
They are not fast by todays standards.
I have a 96 and a 00. Sitting next to each other the 00 looks 20 years newer.
Most people think my C5 is a brand new car. Helps that it has 20" wheels.
My wife thinks the C4 looks so old.
I sold my 94 C4 to get a C5 cause I wanted a fast car. Its cheaper to make a C5 750hp then
it is to make a C4. Once that car was done I went back to a C4 cause I like driving it more.
I'm fine owning a C4 and a C5 but... I don't like that people feel you drive a C4 cause
you cannot afford a new vette. I think most people buy a C4 cause they cannot afford a C5.
I could get a C5, C6 or C7. I want a C7 Z06, but I cannot afford that.
I see no reason to get a C6, its not much different then my C5
I plan to get a C3 next year and either a C2 or C7 Z in 3 years.

I was 60 when I started looking for my first corvette. I looked around my area for a C3 since that was what I knew from my high school days. I had no idea what a C4 was until my son showed me one they took in at the dealership where he worked. Wasn't crazy at first but since it was in great shape and at a fair price I pulled the trigger and never looked back. Most C3 I looked at in my price range looked good on the outside but had serious issues underneath. As for speed the car is fast enough for me. I lived that life when I was a young man.

I say who cares and this is awesome, I would have never been able to buy my first corvette last year. Having fun driving it last year and cannot wait for the summer to arrive.

I started out thinking I wanted a C5 but along the way I found the '95 C4 was a better fit for many reasons. Somehow I think it is hard for some newer vette owners to understand that many of us simply like the C4 feel and look over a newer vette.
No difference then why many C3 owners like a C3 over a C4 or newer vette. I love the fact that you seldom see a nice C4 anymore because it really makes the car stand out.
I drove by a used car lot today that sells Corvettes and all they had was a row of C5's for sale and they have had the same C5's for sale for many months now.
When I realized how much I wanted a late C4 to me it felt like I had won the lottery when I found out how great a value the car was. I could afford a newer vette but to me it is about what fits you right.
I think all vettes are awesome and my C4 is the only vette I want no matter what the price.

Wrong. I'm on my 3rd C4 (a 88' 35th Anniversary coupe) because I like them. I could have bought a C5 (and to be totally honest, was about to buy a C3) when I found the '88. The C4 brought performance AND handling back to the Corvette. I love the way you "put the car on" when you climb into it and the clamshell. I went to the Corvette Expo recently and there were a handful of C4's there. My car and another were the only 35th Anniversary cars out of hundreds of cars. Heck...I'm glad the C4 is cheap...makes it easy for me to ****** up the generation of Corvette that made me want to OWN a Corvette.

interesting thread
I like this thread, even though I could care less if my '90 vert is ever "collectable/valuable" or not. I am loving it. Just to throw out some meaningless numbers to consider.
lowest production number c4 year:
1992
lowest production number year for c4 coupe
1992
" " " convertible
1996
worthless trivia-they made more 1963 verts than 1990 verts
would love to know how many c4 survivors are out there as I too rarely see them compared to the later models. I have c4 "part out farms" located in 2 states on either side of me, their yards are full of parted out c4's.
I too could have gotten into a c5,but I thought the c4 was a better starter vette, (and I'm really not that in love with the c5 compared to others.) Someone on this board stated that the c4 was the last vette to fit the technical/historical definition of a sports car, I agree.

Its kinda disheartening that they're so cheap, when you have one you'd like to sell. I've had my 89 for 16 years, rebuilt the engine to stock with long tube racing headers and true duel exhaust and no cats (love the sound of true duel exhaust), rebuilt the A4 transmission to racing specifications, and many repairs and small mods. Never got around to replacing the bad leather seats though so it doesn't make a good first impression. I think its a hell of a car and sounds as mean as any. But I have a C7 now and hardly drive the C4. Sad to see it just sitting there.
