Do they produce any descent 16 inch wheels for a 1984 Vet,I need new tires and I want to keep everything standard,just want a different style wheel.

I think ARE wheels make TorqueThrust wheels in 16 inch width to fit C4 Corvettes, check their website, I have ARE 398 wheels but they stopped building them many years ago.

255/50R16 BF Goodrich Sport Comp 2's can be had for as low as $135, Toyos a bit more. That's about it for reasonably priced 16's.
As above, for the long term, go with 17's....1991 to 1996 Sawblades are a great factory C4 choice, but the Subaru, BMW, VW, fart can crowd will be looking for them as well.

For an '84 specifically there might be a greater value in moving to the 17" product. I'd think that ride quality could certainly be improved using the "newer construction technologies" of more recent tires.
I don't believe there could be any that might argue the 16" replacement after-market wheel vs. 17" wheel/tire combination.
Price? I'd think maybe the 17" even less expensive.

At the very least the choices are much broader in price range and performance from all season to super sticky summer.

You should go to the 17s for sure. I have a pair of Kumho 275/40/17s (new) that I have on another car. They are just a little too low profile for it but I think they will fit nicely on my 91 vert. I got them on sale for around $100 apiece. They have about a 10 inch tread. I see that profile sold close to that price often. If you are getting new wheels anyway, you could also open up the possibilities for larger rotors/calipers if you wish. You definitely are in a win/win situation. You should make sure your off set is similar to the wheels you have so the suspension geometry is good.
