95 Stuck Hood, Easy Release

Drifting
It finally happened on my 96. The battery was dead, I tried to pop the hood and the drivers side wouldn’t open. Getting help from my dad, we found where the cable broke at the hood release inside the car; so at least I could easily get the hood open.
I saw a emergency hood release thread on this forum years ago but never got around to making them. I came back and found this thread, went to Ace and got the cable and supplies. We installed the cables and they work great. Thanks for the post and pics.

Was browsing around Ecklers today and saw this... Apparently they make a tool for this...

Twenty bucks and I don't have to compromise security.

You don't need steel cable..
Just run a length of (black, preferably) paracord from one latch under the wipers to the other latch and tie them off at each latch. Paracord is very strong and will operate the latches easily and its soft enough to run across the car to the other side. I bored a hole in the ends of the scuttle tray under the wipers to let the cord run in an almost straight line to each side.
To release the hood, just reach in under the wipers, grab the cord and pull to release both latches.
While your at it, get a pair of spare keys and secret them in the engine compartment. That way if your locked out, you can gain access again easily. Better than being locked out and having the spare keys miles away back at home.

I did it the easy way. Saved my pennies and spent the $20 for the pre-made kit. Guess I'll have to eat a couple cans of Cat food for a few days but it's worth it for my Corvette. C'mon guys, do you really have to hunt around for the parts to make this thing when it's so readily available on-line?

Regarding the tool from Ecklers: "Designed By Corvette Plant Action Center Technician, Gordon Killebrew." Nice.
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.
Update: On sale through tonight $16.77 Done and done.

You can see the "instruction manual" stapled to the rod.
I just posted this for those industrious folks who will go to Lowe's and buy the stock to bend their own.
Much, much, much better solution than the permanent steal my stuff cable thingy, IMO. Fits right behind the driver's seat.
I keep my cables lubed and hope to never need it.
